About this listen

He's That Guy.

You know, the hero in almost every romance novel. The super-rich, powerful CEO who is beyond sexy. Lives in a penthouse. Is wicked in bed. Has massive.... feet. Is kind of a jerk, but really he's not because he harbors some major secret that, once revealed, explains why he is the way he is - therefore completely redeeming himself and making all the listeners who hated to love him swoon....

Yeah. That one.

Well, I found him.

I'm a writer who has spent years searching for the perfect muse.

Now that I know he exists, I have a mission.

To make him fall in love with me.

This should be easy. I mean, I have issues, but above all, I'm a great catch.

Problem is, I did a stupid thing.

And now he hates me.

Unfortunately for him, he's my That Guy.

And he's going to love me....

Whether he wants to or not.

I think this book was a total riot! It had perhaps the most bizarre lead character I’ve ever ‘met’. Jake was, a swoon worthy jerk turned good guy. But Penelope was a total wild card.

That said, I laughed, rolled my eyes, guffawed, giggled and sighed my way through this.

Don’t that the two narrators lead you into thinking this is a dual POV telling. It’s NOT! And that was a disappointment. The second narrator did the epilogue. Period. But even that was well done!

Worth it? Oh yes, finger-snaps, finger guns, river dance!

THAT guy!

I was hooked on this book from just reading the sample. it wasn't out on audio, so I first read it book on ebook but I am mostly an audio reader. I often own the ebook and the audio, so when this book came out on audio, I snatched it up! I was immediately disappointed because I've watched the author on Facebook live videos and LOVE her very southern accent and read the whole book with that very accent, thick southern, as Penelope's voice and the narrator (Samantha) didn't use a southern accent at all.
I refused to listen to it.
Then, this weekend, I went on a girl's trip and we chose this book to listen to. I sucked it up, knowing I would be frustrated, but one of our friends had not read it yet. The story really is awesome and we laughed ourselves stupid all the way to Cincinnati, Ohio and back. I found myself setting my disappointment aside and just loved listening to this story all over again.
I'm still extremely disappointed that Penelope was not read with a thick Southern accent, especially when the narrator used a little twang when reading Penelope's mom and it was good, but I still absolutely LOVE this story! I gifted an ebook copy of it to my secretary and a very dear friend who just really needed to laugh and we are all waiting desperately for Cam and Emily.
Though a miss on the lack of accent, the narrator did do a wonderful job! I have absolutely no idea how she could read this book without laughing!
Great job, Kim Jones! Great job!

Hilarious, fantastic story!

I have no words to describe Penelope the main character in this story. She begins the story running from a dog and his owner after stealing the dogs poop. She lives in this world in which life is a romance novel and she looks for and expects all of the people in her life to behave like their book counterparts.

Then there’s Jake. Hes Penelope’s That Guy. The billionaire hero. I think at first Jake thinks Penelope just needs medication, because who in their right mind invites themselves into a strangers home when they aren’t home goes through his stuff, takes a bath in his bathroom, wears his clothing and drinks his alcohol....?

At first I admit I was thinking this girl is so over the top crazy how can she get past that to become a love interest of the male character? No one in their right mind would sign up for that it’s insane.

But Penelope isn’t just crazy. She’s out going and funny and smart and extremely opportunistic which is why the story actually works. And after a while the crazy still seems crazy but you just go with it.

This book is funny, it catches you off guard and before you realize it your invested in the crazy. Worth the read.

Great laugh out loud listen. Although you just know what is going to happen at the end the journey there was hilarious and sexy.

Brilliant!

This was fun, playful and just what I needed to get me out of my slump. I adored Penelope. She was quirky and the star of this book. She’s silly and she made me smile a lot.

Jake was a jerk at first. I didn’t like him, until I did. The more he fell for Penelope, the more I fell for him.

The best friend, Cam was just as enjoyable in the story. I hope his story is next. That ending was a complete tease!

I did the audiobook from audio escape and would highly recommend it. The narrators were awesome!

Playful!

When this book first started... I wasn’t feeling it. But since I bought it I thought I’d just listen to it for something to listen to. Took a few chapters... but I really ended up liking it. It however is totally predictable... has some funny parts... lots of sex... a little too raunchy sometimes. Still... it’s a good book.

Good book

This is the funniest book in Audible Escape. it feels like 2 books. The first ends when they sleep together (the action book) and the second is the internal monologue of feelings. Poking fun at the romance novel stereotypes throughout ties the two together.

Smile, laugh, snort, laugh-cry, repeat

I just finished listening to this one and it was awesome.
Penelope is from Mt. Olive, Mississippi which is not far from me. I live in the same town as the author and found that I was loving Penelope and wanted her for my new BFF. She is the kind of BFF that will go to Chicago in the dead of winter to exact revenge on her BFF's ex-boyfriend. And while there she gets in all kinds of trouble. This woman will go through a lot to get what she wants and she will show how strong a southern woman really is. She is an author and found her muse in Jake and wanted to spend time with him to get writing material for her next book.
Jake is That Guy, the one most women want and men want to be like. He is successful, powerful, and very rich. If he can stop being so mad at her, he might begin to like her. then she might get even more notes for her book and some steamy moments for herself.
This story is sexy, steamy, laugh out loud funny, and worth the read. I love this author and don't know why I waited so long to read it. So grab it and enjoy the laughter. I can't wait for Cam and Emily's story.

Great Story!

It’s been a while since I listened to a Rom Com that actually had me laughing throughout the entire book Samantha Cook was awesome as Penelope, I was a little disappointed that Aaron Shedlock was only in the epilogue but Samantha did such a great job narrating both Penelope and Jake’sa characters. I would definitely recommend and reread this one.

Hilarious
