About this listen

What are you waiting for? NA paranormal fantasy at its best from international best seller Tara Brown. This is the series that started it all, and this is the book that lets you see behind the curtain.

"Ari, this is Aimee James. She's different, like you." The old lady smiled brightly. "Until you get to know each other, I wouldn't go holding hands. Who knows what'll happen."

Something powerful, dark, and dangerous lurks inside of young Ari. She's the queen of self-control and commitment until suddenly she isn't.

Ari finds herself transformed and alone in a dark alley in the north instead of the sunny south. Her soft, black hair is shaved. Her face is marred with piercings, and she has more tattoos than the cook back home. In fact she is a different Ari altogether. Different memories and a different past. And a death still warming her fingertips.

When Aimee meets the street urchin Lydia drags home, she's not prepared for the friendship that will blossom as Ari opens up about who and what she is - something very few have ever seen. Ari can do things that give Aimee hope. She can send people back to a time when a choice made them who they have become. For Aimee that sounds just like salvation.

I found the story a bit confusing, jumping back and forth all the time. Sometimes I get the feeling the author doesn't properly communicate the plot. But I did enjoy it and I'm starting on the next one

not too bad

almost didn't get this one because I saw a lot of reviews saying it was hard to follow. That wasn't the case for me. I really enjoyed this book.

I slowly got through this dreaded book. I just couldn’t relate with her character. Took me 2 months to finally finish it!
She was super cringy and annoying! I’m just glad it’s over!! On to the next!! FINALLY!

I got annoyed with this character quick!

When I originally purchased this book, I thought I was going to get to follow the story of Aimee; what happens next? How does she learn to deal with her new life? What’s the deal with Shane and Alexandra? Exc but instead the author made Aimee supporting cast … “the best friend roll.” Which is just silly. If you didn’t find Aimee to be an interesting enough character on her own, why write her in the first place? Did I think it was still a good book? Yes. it was interesting. That being said, I really believe the new girl should have been the “best friend” roll .. and then it could have been mostly about her in the next book. This book was mostly ari with Aimee getting a chapter or couple pages here and there. We should have been able to follow Aimee learning her powers, going to the roses, meeting Lydia and finding a home with her. I feel like the author did Aimee wrong.

Aimee = supporting cast; “The best friend roll”

I really enjoyed book one, but this book ... ?
I'm not thrilled about the last few chapters. It feels like it didn't really have an ending and you get the start of the next book. Unsatisfying.

Has a funky ending
