About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

The crew of the Baneblade Mars Triumphant wage bitter war against the orks for the fate of the Kalidar system – but old rivalries threaten to doom them all.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's fast-paced, hard-hitting action based around one of the mightiest battle tanks in the galaxy – and Guy Haley does a fantastic job with not only the crew of the Baneblade, but their ork enemies too, making this a fascinating look at battle from both sides.

THE STORY

By the blessing of the Omnissiah was the Mars Triumphant born – from the forges of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the mighty Baneblade super-heavy battle tank comes to bring death and destruction to the foes of the Imperium. As part of the Paragonian 7th Company, Honoured Lieutenant Marken Cortein Lo Bannick commands the venerable war machine in a bitter war against the orks in the Kalidar system. As the campaign grinds on it begins to take its toll upon his crew, and old clan prejudices from the regiment's home world arise once more. In a war which cannot be won by force of arms alone, such division may prove to be their undoing.

For a book named for the tank, I expected a lot more Baneblade than the nook actually gave me. there are only a few parts in the book containing action from inside the tank. Most of what the protagonist does and sees during the book is outside his tank. The culmination of the protagonists backstory was underwhelming and makes you wonder if there was any even fault in his "dishonor" at all. Longworth is impressive as always, no issues with narration.

Expected more Baneblade

Fantastic book on a great set of characters and a very cool look into imperial guard tanks!

Great book

I didn’t think a book about a tank could be written this well. My only complaint is that the second book shadowsword doesn’t have an audio version yet

One of my favorites

This book came out of nowhere for me and immediately commanded my full attention for the last two days. I blazed through this faster than most 40k books, and I can't recommend it enough for fans of the Guard, or for fans of the mighty Baneblade - it should be on every tank fan's shelf! I can't wait for the next book (Shadowsword) to get it's audiobook version to continue the tale, and follow up on the survivors of the events of this book. Thoroughly enjoyable through and through, Toby Longworth in particular delivers his usual standout performance and brings multiple engaging characters to life, including the full human, and Ork cast! This book was well worth the price of purchase, and I see myself returning for repeat listens in the future!

Long Live Cortein's Honor!

The beginning slogs a but but once the stpry gets out of its owb way, it is fairly good. Still is a tad long.

A tad long

Overall this isn't a bad novel. What I loved about it was finally showing intelligent orks. And personally I thought there was enough baneblade in it to warrant the title. My two problems with this story was the main character's "dishonor" that felt pretty shallow and wasn't a good motivation to drive him. The other was it can get pretty heavy in exposition at times making some dialogue feel drawn out or unnatural.
It's a good listen if you have nothing else to listen to at the moment.

Overall decent

The narrator was excellent and the over all story was good. I found the battle sequences were well written and easy to follow. There’s a second volume about another Baneblade pattern tank that I hope comes to audio book soon and narrated by the same guy.

Very enjoyable

Who would have thought big tanks would make for a good story? Another great performance by Toby Longworth. I actually really enjoyed this novel, more than I anticipated from reading reviews on here and Reddit. I thought the story was compelling with a satisfying ending.

For the Emperor!

This is exactly what i expected from the book and it didn’t disappoint if you’ve seen the movie fury you’ll pick up some of the plot right away but it’s a great story

The book illustrate a good buildup of lore and story.
Could have done away with the flashback.
But it has a good payoffs
