Publisher's summary

They call him Marrex the Monster. Deformed and wretched, Captain Marrex roams the black of space with only a pair of eccentric AIs for company. The curse in his DNA means a long, bitterly lonely life for the Ghelyxian, and it’s a fate Marrex knows he can’t change.

After a long sleep in stasis, Juniper Bo wakes to discover he’s an unwelcome guest aboard Captain Marrex’s ship. Though he tries to stay away from the surly Ghelyxian, he just doesn’t get why the curse is such a big deal - then again, Juniper knows his tastes are rather...unusual for a Human. When friendship blooms between Marrex and Juniper, they realize they face a future that neither could have predicted in their wildest dreams.

Perfect rework of a classic!

This was outstanding! It took all the troubling parts of the BatB story, and dumped them overboard for an even stronger story.

BatB is my favorite fairy tale, even with the issues, so this had a lot to live up to, but I loved this more than the original. Considering I'm not a huge fan of science fiction or space stories it's even more impressive that I enjoyed this so much.

Marrex and Juniper are wonderful, and I loved how the points of the original were included, but tweaked to fit the setting. I loved the AI sidekicks as well, they added a great touch of humor.

I don't always find reworks of classics work for me, but this was great in every way.

Audio: I love Michael Ferraiuolo's narration in general, and this was no exception. All the voices were distinct and appropriate to the characters. I even enjoy his female voices, they never come across as caricatures, and they sound feminine, not all male narrators achieve that. He also does great with accents. I wish he did more books that I enjoyed!

new twist on classic story

set in space and being mm it's a new twist on Beauty and the Beast. Only this belle's family is really crappy and the Beast is in desperateneed of love. The story is good and the narration is good.

Vivid and Unique Sci Fi Version of this fairy tale

I loved this story so much I had to come and leave a review! This was a rich, fun, descriptive and intense listen! The narrator did an out of this world (no pun intended) job of bringing Marrex our Beast, Juniper our Beauty as well as the AI's S1N and Val to life! I felt like I was there with them on the spaceship! You can visualize every detail of stunning Juniper and his Beast. There is a hidden spaceship garden too! The AIs are the comic relief and I rather enjoyed that S1N projected as a Cat! The story is a fresh Sci Fi version of the tale, but it keeps to the emotions and spirit of the original. There are some "interesting" and very sensual steamy sex scenes given Marrex is a Ghelyxian not a human! I was so invested in these characters I would LOVE a sequel following up their future together! Highly recommend giving it a listen!

I really enjoyed it

I enjoyed this take on the classic Beauty & the Beast. I hated Juniper's sisters for what they tried to do. I would love to see more of these two together & maybe Marrex reunion with his people. I really wish there was a sequel.

short and sweet sci-fi erotic romance

Beauty and His Beast is a short sweet love story. Marrex and Juniper are easy to like. The AI reminded me a bit of C-3PO so as you would assume, there is some lightly humorous banter. It's about friendship and romance with a touch of fantasy and eroticism and good portion of sci-fi. If you're looking for a charming quick read with sexy hot scenes, this is it. I wouldn't mind seeing these guys pop up in a future book.

A great sci fi version of a classic story

I enjoyed this book, the characters, setting, writing...all worked very well.
I must say I am quite impressed that Michael Ferraiuolo didn't go for his classic lazy sassy drawl voice this time, because I have heard that in several unrelated books he narrated and it got a bit annoying. I really liked the voice he used for Marrex (and I agree with Juniper that it is rather sexy!).

Sweet but felt rushed, not a lot of chemistry

This book definitely suffered from being too short and trying to overstuff to compensate.

I didn't at all feel chemistry between the two love interests, they really didn't know anything about eachother and even by the end of the book you really don't know anything about either one of them.

The attraction really was all physical, which was fine, it made the two Erotic scenes fun.

The Erotic scenes were a bit short, again, felt rushed and really could have used more time to both build into it and for the act itself.

The world building was just enough to understand what was going on in the immediate area but definitely stayed so localized it was hard to understand the state of the universe so it was hard to appreciate.

Overall, this was fine, not bad, i enjoyed parts of it, just not very memorable.

Sci fi and a great take on Beauty and the Beast

Bey Deckard just satisfied my love of science fiction by weaving a futuristic fairy tale in space. Beautiful Juniper freed from stasis meets cranky deformed Ghelyxian, Captain Marrex. The two AI's on board have quite the personalities! Fortunately for Captain Marrex, Juniper is an open minded human, I believe Deckard describes him as a xenophile.
The B & B fairytale theme plays throughout, including stingy dislikable sisters who attempt to separate Juniper and Marrex. If you enjoy science fiction, recognizable fairy tales, and steamy sex, you'll enjoy this book.
