About this listen

Mihalis finds himself in a new situation—one in which all of the training he's received growing up isn't helping him to cope as much as he'd hoped.

He's angry. He's never truly been angry before in his life, and the anger he's dealing with isn't even coming from him! It's coming from the djevels.

His lion side, he's discovered, is far less affected by it than his dark elf, which only makes sense when you consider his dark elf heritage. If he wants to pull himself back together, he needs to understand just what he's dealing with and how to manage it.

Then, of course, there are the other djevels out there, more he needs to bring under his banner. Prince Bratsch will undoubtedly be looking westwards toward those lands that once belonged to the former Prince Talt's now-dead lords.

Last of all, there is that nascent hotel business of his and Sawyer's. Nobody ever saw through Superman's glasses disguise. Maybe Mihalis can do the same with those horns?

Excellent series entry

This is a great entry to the series, I love the universe that the two series have built. I also love that in all the violence and sex family is so very important, a person's word is important. One of the things I like about the Mihalus stories is that he might be one of the most powerful people on the planet but he tempers his violence with reason and caring, protecting his family and the led capable, allowing fools to find they're way however that ends and doesn't run around pushing his will on others unnecessarily. Sure you come for him or his family and you will be ripped apart and rightly so, he has doubts about the ethics of his choices, which any same person would do. It makes him seem very real and relatable... Your always rooting for him because despite some of his faults he really tried to be the best man he can be and insure he never crosses veritable lines. You want to be him, you can relate to his actions and you want to sit down and just chill with him and talk about his life... It's something you don't see in a lot of stories... World and character building can be hard but the author has nailed a lot of his characters well, and there are a lot of them. I never feel they are just two dimensional, he even is able to make you think the super models are just two dimensional and then you realize wow there actually nothing like what you would think supermodels or heck even elves would be.... Just... Class act Jan

here's hoping we get some more books in the series

I'm quite the fan of the initial story. it was cool to see that the author intended to continue on following the kids. as is true with any story there are some entries into the series that I like more than others. overall though I've enjoyed the series and I'm hoping that we get an ending. it took me quite some time to get through this specific book. I don't recall when or where I saw it, but the author stated he was going to take a break from this universe for a while. he has started another series that is phenomenal even with it being a first book that suffers from a few of the beginning shakes. if you haven't checked out stand alone yet then I highly recommend you do. getting back to this book though I will simply say that it is worth the listen and that the narrators did a fantastic job with their performance. it is a little weird to hear the narrator using what sounds to me like a Bill Clinton voice for one of the low-level characters, but whatever. with that a round of applause for everybody who had a hand and bringing the story to us, the audiobook listeners.

Another Fantastic Book

The combination of family values and absolute ruthlessness is what is so stunning and endearing about the Valens books. They are such a wonderful dichotomy of positions it is wonderful to see Mihalis struggle with the control necessary to portray his role and still maintain his character. All of the characters are well represented and displayed in a realistic light. Another great story, my only problem is that now I have to wait for the next book!
