About this listen

Listeners rabid for the sweet historical romances of Tracie Peterson and Tamara Alexander will flock to best-selling author Kim Vogel Sawyer's prairie-set heartwarmer of high society cast-off and the western town that welcomes her.

Abigail Brantley grew up in affluence and knows exactly how to behave in high society. But when she is cast from the social registers due to her father's illegal dealings, she finds herself forced into a role she never imagined: tutoring rough Kansas ranchers in the subjects of manners and morals so they can "marry up" with their mail-order brides. Mack Cleveland, whose father was swindled by a mail-order bride, wants no part of the scheme to bring Eastern women to Spiveyville, Kansas, and he's put off by the snooty airs and fastidious behavior of the "little city gal" in their midst. But as time goes by, his heart goes out to the teacher who tries so diligently to smooth the rough edges from the down-to-earth men. How can he teach her that perfection won't bring happiness?

Beautiful story of love & faith

I fell in love with the cast of characters in this Western small town romance. It has a Christian message that enriches the book. It has themes of love, faith, friendship, forgiveness, and redemption. Very heartwarming and life-affirming.

Delightful!

I so enjoyed this story! A little more lighthearted and a very different twist with mail order brides. I hope Kim does more of these It showed how God worked in so many ways and how things work out with his guidance! Of course I adore Pilar! One of my favorite narrators !!

Good story, little mystery, Christian aspect...

but the Bible verse at the very beginning is incomplete and what is left out is "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind". Also, the narrator is good at different voices, but pauses in the weirdest places, mid-sentence as if she's lost her place and should have practiced more.

Very nice romance and human nature story

I like this story and the morals it reinforces. I especially enjoyed the female narrators portrayal of the male voices. Usually female narrators make the male voices sound like an adolescent. Somehow Pilar is able to convey that a man is speaking without making the voices sound scratchy, strained and lacking in base. She uses a more natural voice. I would chose books narrated by her in the future.

A Unique Mail Order Bride Story

I enjoyed this story although the beginning was a little slow. At first I didn’t see how the matchmaker could be successful but there were several surprises and a very satisfying ending.

Excellent Use of Scripture

Cute characters and great plot. A bit difficult to believe near the end but still delightful. The narrator does an exceptional job with so many characters and doesn’t make them sound like screaming banshees. Sawyer uses scripture in a natural way that doesn’t interfere with the story. I look forward to more from this team.
