Publisher's summary

CBA best-selling author Kim Vogel Sawyer - ACF Book of the Year winner for Waiting for Summer's Return - delivers enthralling, historically rich tales whose unforgettable characters resonate with poignant intensity and compelling authenticity.

After a New York tenement fire kills their immigrant parents in 1886, Maelle, Mattie, and Molly Gallagher soon find themselves aboard a crowded orphan train - hoping a family will adopt them in Missouri. Despite eight-year-old Maelle's best efforts to keep the young survivors together, they must split up. A traveling photographer adopts her, a grieving family takes Mattie, and a wealthy couple claims Molly. Keeping her parents' ribbon-wrapped love letters, Maelle entrusts the fading family picture to Mattie and the well-worn family Bible to Molly. And, in a tearful parting, Maelle vows to one day find her younger siblings.

My fvorite from Kim Vogel Sawyer

I have read - or better listened to - quite a few of her books, and yes, this is definitely the best for me. The partly heart wrenching fates of the "wee-ones", but still combined with hope and blessings, have moved me and encouraged me to step up and trust more courageously.

God Plans Our Steps

Great book on what seemed like great grief but shows how God uses everything for his good. Great insight into the workings of the orphan trains and the separation of families. Filled with God’s love and devotion towards us even when life seems darkest.

heart felt

I loved the way the community cared for those poor street children. when Jesus reached each heart there was a change in each . I would hope a 2nd book would come out. too hear of the orphan school and this could easily be a movie!

Almost Didn't Finish

I found the narrator's voice extremely irritating. If it wasn't for the story line, I wouldn't have finished. The story is a very touching one. However, the author left you up in the air at the end. I dislike this about an author. Another irritating thing, is the story is broke into two parts - when the send part started, it automatically fast forwarded past the beginning of the second part. I had to rewind it to the beginning of the second part to get to the beginning of it.

I loved this book. I wish she would write a series. My heart broke over the separation of the children. One of my favorite books and author.

Great heartwarming story

I did not realize this was a Christian novel when I began listening to it. Such a great, uplifting story in such crazy, troublesome times. I love stories that make you feel grateful for what you have and forget about the troubles of the world at the same time and this was one of those stories!
