About this listen

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the dark to my sister’s light - the awkward loner to her social butterfly. Growing up, she had it all: our parent’s unyielding approval, perfect grades, a permanent spot at the popular table, and the attention of the hottest guy ever - Duke Kincaid. After 18 years of living in her shadow, I couldn’t wait to escape - to finally be my own person. Yet here I am - back in my hometown, once again in Valorie’s shadow. Only now, it’s eternal.

I had life all planned out: join the force, marry Valorie Parsons, and start a family of our own. I have the job, but the girl and all my dreams died before my very eyes. Finally ready to move on, I agree to a blind date. Imagine my shock when I arrive and find Valorie’s twin sister waiting across the table from me. Mallory should be a reminder of all that I’ve lost, but, instead, she feels like my redemption...like maybe life’s giving me a second chance. But how can I be enough for her when I’ve already given her sister the best of me?

Beautiful Story!

This was such a beautiful love story with a perfect narration by Teddy Hamilton. Avery Reid also did a fine job, though the southern accent seemed a bit artificial at times.

It didn’t seem entirely plausible that a mother would love one twin and despise the other twin, but the story was written quite articulately and beautifully that it gave plausibility to the plot.

I must also mention that the hot fire of Mallory and Duke’s initial reunion and then the slow burn of their dating and falling in love worked so well for the story.

I just loved this book and teared up a number of times. Highly recommend it!

Terrific love story

Duke and Mallory's story has touched my heart so deeply it's one of my favorite read's and listen's. I know for certain I will listen to this book over and over. From the very beginning it grabs your attention and doesn't let go till the very end and even then you still keep thinking about it. Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorite narrator's and now Avery Reid is too! Thanks LK Farlow for writing such a great book.

😍

Absolutely love the story.
The narrators gave the story all the feelings.
I would smile and laugh at some scenes while others had me sobbing and crying like a baby.

Loved it. Narration was perfect Teddy and Avery made the story so much better...finished in one sitting. Story had the perfect amount of angst considering the trope, it was actually on the low scale. enjoyed it a lot.

Could have been better

It’s a decent story, with an interesting premise, that could have been great.

There’s no resolution with the parents - sure there’s something of a showdown but it’s never really settled.

There’s also no point that Duke and Mallory ever actually address his relationship with her sister and how the two relationships might overlap. I kept waiting for her to tell him explicitly “I’m not her” because realistically she would have to have that worry/insecurity - and he never says to her “I know you aren’t her, I love you for who you are”. Maybe it’s implied, but the story is lacking for not giving that to the reader.

Also the scenes near the beginning where Duke goes from raging to kissing her are just really unbelievable. It took me out of the story because of how outrageous and how out of place it felt. I know he had conflicting feelings but as a LEO you’d think he has some degree of control over his emotions. Especially having dealt with Nancy as long as he has.
