Overall, this book is a great guide to help people first to understand, and then to deal with the issue of unsocialized, abused or abandoned dogs who have trust issues. There's way too much to summarized and I wouldn't do it justice, so if this topic interests you, spend a credit or a few dollars and do yourself a favor and learn about what you can do to help your four legged friends be better behaved and have a better life. I was given a copy of this book for this review.

She has some great tips, and stories in here. I hope everyone who owns a dog reads this. Even if its just to understand how dogs think if nothing else.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Ms. Weber reveals what the dogs themselves are experiencing at the various stages of interaction with humans and other fear stimuli emotionally, mentally and physically and how to both set a dog up for success and how to safely aid a dog who has already passed threshold into fear reaction spiral. Her book offers enlightenment and practical hands-on instruction for people who help fearful dogs as well as those who wish to more deeply understand their own dogs and other dogs with varying levels of timidity whom they meet along their way.
As well, the book provides reflection for all dog lovers on our human psychological dynamics in relation to dogs, one example of which is to never be shy about protecting or removing our dogs from potential negative interactions with other people or dogs.
It is my wish that every single person who cares about dogs will read/listen to this deeply moving, inspiring and ultimately refreshing book in order to elevate society’s level of “dog literacy” and compassion.
A deeply compelling guide - moving, inspiring, enlightening, beautiful and actionable. A must-listen for all animal lovers!

In her book, Beyond Flight or Fright, Sunny Weber shares her vast knowledge of animals, especially dogs, psychological reactions.
Yes, that this what I said! While listening to this audiobook, narrated by Richard Rieman, I discovered many things about animal behavior that I many people have been misled by.
My family has had terrible experiences with raising dogs – mostly purebred – that ended up being given away or left at the Dog Pound after several times paying the hefty fines to retrieve them. I had animals as a child and never experienced the problems we had once I was married with children. My husband and I even had a small dog before we had children, that was like a child in behavior and our love for him. Through reading this book, I can see how we made many mistakes while training him. We followed disciplinary tacts we were tod to by whom we believed were professionals. I find we were taught wrong. We somehow loved the dog enough that he turned out very lovable.
After listening to this book, I discovered the reasons why our family was not successful in raising a dog or cat. I can now see the different traits in each we responded to badly. Luckily, we found homes for most of them where the new owner loved each animal and was successful in adopting them.
The author explains why the ways taught in the book/audiobook are the best. They all made sense. These are from many studies into the mindsets of animals. The individuals have closely studied different types of animal behaviors developed under various circumstances. These are from years of close observation of animal reactions and of failures and successes in adapting them to a human environment.
I think this book should be required reading before adopting a dog, or any animal, from shelters or other rescue centers. It would be wise for anyone obtaining a pet to study and follow this book.It was truly an “eye-opener” for me!
The Narrator, Richard Rieman did a very good job in adding feeling and varied voice inflections bringing this documentary type of sorry, alive!
This audiobook was gifted me with no pressure to ost a positive review. This is my honest review.
his shoud be required reading/ for all pet owners!

As an avid animal lover, I'm always trying to find homes for the unwanted stray dogs and cats.
Behavior problems always make it difficult to find the right family to care for them.
As a result, I've ended up keeping the most challenging animals.
I have a very timid Chihuahua that's a constant work in progress.
I've tried to follow some the techniques a very popular pet whisper employs but some of his methods are just to abrasive for me.
By building trust like Sunny says, I've been able to make progress with him.
I much prefer this method to flooding.
This book offers many tips on how to handle behavioral problems in a non cruel way.
If you've ever wanted insight from your furry friends POV you'll want to listen to this.
I was lucky enough to be given this book for free that I highly recommend.
Very insightful...🐕
