About this listen

Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths and lady luck tucked into their back pocket. Then there's people like me, who live to survive. Survive loss. Survive loneliness. Survive the black tar that swallows you whole, stealing everything and anything that could resemble a piece of happiness. They try and fail, try again and fail even harder. Starting life's never ending cycle of wash, rinse, and repeat.

That's me. Or it was. Ten years I wandered through life. Through 10 towns. Through 10 men. Then, I didn't anymore. A hellacious storm came and ripped everything away, leaving me stripped bare for the most beautiful man. A man part of the Corrupt Chaos Motorcycle club, who not only saved my life but rescued my soul. Or so it may seem from the outside. On the inside, it's not that simple. Life never is.

It's dirty.

It's ugly.

And it's painstakingly relentless.

I'm Magdalene Murdock and this is my story.

Fun roller coaster ride with a lot of twists!

This book just knocked me down! The ending was just...just...yeah, I have no words...ok I have 5 word....That was just mean, Bink!! (In a good way of course)

Mags is a very strong but lonely & lost character. She knows loss and instead of dealing with it, she just runs from it. Lachlan is a Biker, Firefighter and good dad but he is also very emotionally damaged. Oh and did I forget Scottish?? Yep, pretty much a complete ball of hotness! These two spend all their time trying not to have any feelings for each other but of course that's not always easy. This story started off a bit slow but still had me staying up until 3am finishing it!

The narrator is phenomenal! Tracy Marks is on my instant buy list. I have listened to many books I never would have because she is the narrator. I just love her voice, the inflections in her characters voices and her pace is perfect. In this book she does an awesome job at a Scottish male. Just another reason to love her work! She adds an extra Star to every book she narrates!

It was a good book

This book was a little slow for me. There was too much inner dialogue. The author was good at building sexual tension but not enough conversation to develop the relationship for me. Mag was just okay, a bit weak and apologetic. I didn't like the narrator doing Mag but not sure if it was because of the character or the narrator. I really liked Lachlan and I will say that narrator nailed the accent. Her performance doing Lachlan was perfect!

5 Fantastic Stars !!

First of all I loved, loved, loved this book. I loved Lachlan, a Scottish Biker with a heart of gold and is an amazing father (Swoon) The way he helped Mags through everything and never wanted to leave her side just made me melt. Lachlan daughter Bridgett was also an amazing girl, I just fell in love with her, and they way she was with Mags.

The abuse the three of them all dealt with over the years is very hard to hear, and is very heartbreaking but the way they start to over come it was amazing. Once I started this book I just could not stop, this story had me from chapter 1. Hands down a great book and I can't wait for more.

Tracy Marks did a fantastic job with the narration of this book, her Scottish accent was perfect! If I had more then 5 stars I would give them to her for her performance with this book.

Two broken people try to heal each other

Beyond Her Words

Magdalene and Lachlan are two very broken people, both have no self esteem and a lot of pain. Mags is living in the past, still heartbroken from her fiancé's death 10 years prior. She has spent the past 10 years running from town to town anytime things got hard or got two close for comfort. Lachlan is a veteran, a firefighter and has spent 17 years in a marriage with a woman that he hates because he wanted to do whats best for his beloved daughter. This story is about their pain, their healing and their connection.

I was hooked by this book, all of the emotion and the story line really drew me in. I missed sleep so I could continue listening. I could have done without the biker party sex hijinks because it didn’t really fit with the rest of the book but I get the feeling this is the start of a series of stories about the men in the MC and maybe the groupies make more sense in a future story.

The narrator, Tracy Marks, did an amazing job and her performance definitely added to the story. She was able to differentiate all of the male and female characters that are present in the story and even do a pretty convincing male-Scottish voice.

Fair warning: I balled like a baby towards the end. Enjoy :)

Awesome narration for hot story

Story of Magdalene with lots of tragedy in her past is saved by Lachlan, the Scottish fireman. Sounds like a basic story right? Wrong- there was so much going on here, both with the relationship between Magdalene and Lachlan and their relationships with his daughter, other members of his MC, and many others. I couldn't get enough of this story and especially Lachlan. This narrator absolutely nails this performance. To be able to differentiate the ladies so well and then to do a male so convincingly that it made me swoon to his Scottish accent every time- Amazing!! I am not a regular to the 5 star recommendation club, but this story made me give up sleep for more of figuring out all of the nuances and dynamics playing out, never bored me, and again the narrator just blew it out of the water. If I had to give any criticism, during the first half of the book, if Magdalene said she lost time i.e.-"it could've been seconds, minutes, hours- who knows", one more time I was going to scream- fortunately as I said that in my head, it didn't happen again. And for that to be my only complaint- then obviously I give this a definite high priority on the TBR list.

Refreshing

Any additional comments?

I have listened to a lot of steamy books like this revolving around MC culture -- this is refreshing. It is less dramatic in the physical peril sense, but I consider that a respite. We all have secrets. It's about the courage it takes to reveal your biggest insecurities to those you love.

Love Scottish Accent But Weird From Start to End

Would you try another book from Bink Cummings and/or Tracy Marks?

Maybe on Cummings; the subject matter was just weird
Definitely on Marks; The Scottish Brogue was spot on and lovely to listen to

What was most disappointing about Bink Cummings’s story?

The "horrible" hang up/secret that his main romantic story line revolved around. It seemed foolish and anti-climatic when it was revealed.

Now I also took issue with the fact that Lachlan, the big-wig of the MC wearing a kilt.

Did Tracy Marks do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Absolutely, Lachlan was very distinctive-Scottish accent. Everyone else was unique as well, especially the females. However, I was a bit confused with the abundance of male characters, from the writing, NOT the performance.

Any additional comments?

I finished because *I was given this book in exchange for my review. If I hadn't agreed I would have stopped after a few hours.

The other reviewers loved it, so maybe it is just me.
