About this listen

Near the end of the 21st century, Earth is in chaos from environmental devastation and a vicious undeclared war against binaries, genetically engineered assassins. Composed of a single consciousness inhabiting two human bodies (tways), binaries are ruled by an alpha breed, the Royal Caste.

Nick Smith, computer programmer and brilliant strategist, hooks up with Annabel Bakana, the savvy new director of E-Tech, an organization dedicated to limiting runaway technological growth. Together both romantically and professionally, they secretly assemble a small combat team to hunt and kill binaries.

But there's a fly in the ointment: the mysterious team leader, Gillian. A tormented soul with an unseemly attraction to Annabel, his actions just might help the Royal Caste's cause and draw the world closer to Armageddon.

Serving as both a stand-alone novel and prequel to Liege-Killer, Binary Storm is a futuristic tale of bold characters pushed to the brink in a dangerous world. Startling action, political intrigue and powerful themes that echo our contemporary era are fused into a plot brimming with twists and surprises.

Great listen

I really enjoyed this book. The character development was outstanding and the story itself was very original and enjoyable. The narrator did an excellent job and was very entertaining. I hope to find more gems from this author to partake in.

It’s just okay

Many years ago I read the liege killer books and really enjoyed them- even reading them a few time and recommending them to those that would listen. This novel seemed rushed and full of too many gadgets and side tech stories that were just thrown in. The story seemed a bit forced unfortunately. I thought the women characters seemed like a dated idea of women and not forward thinking- and the narration of their voices and the writing made them sound annoying, emotional and fixated on biological clocks. The story is poor on resolution

A fate to avoid

The story brings a sense of warning of what could go wrong if science goes out of control. The desire for profit destroyed the planet.

A good backstory.

Overall a very good story. No real surprises since we already know the end of the story for this book. The story was fairly predictable. There were a few surprises. But the biggest surprise for me was the introduction of the Rome Franco’s family lineage. Listen for it, see if you can hear it.

The Binaries are a very interesting concept.

I really enjoyed the book. I really want to listen to the sequels. Good performance too. As others have mentioned, the save the world from humanity themes are a little distracting and unnecessary to the story.

Unsatisfying

It was fine. Worth a listen because it was free with my Audible membership, but I wouldn't spend a credit on it. Classic case of an interesting premise with lackluster follow through.

great book but sometimes the voices can get cringy

Great story but they should have brought in a woman to read the female spoken parts. Not the readers fault but the attempt to do some of the female dialog was often cringy and strange.

it had promise

it could have been a great story!
narrator is awesome.
story line deteriorated into a pathetic trope of idiotic idealisms. the conclusion sucks. There is no character development they are the same beginning to end.
