Good story...Tough listen

I’m currently about 1/2 way into this book...story is really good but it’s really hard to listen to. So much so, I had to write a review of this now.

The narrator...wow! Every voice is a William Shatner. Literally...! His portrayal of a tough-guy is a sneering Capt Kirk from the Starship Enterprise.

Peter Berkrot, if you read this...quit it. You wreck the book by channeling James T. in every...single...character...voice!

Hint: Doug, get Ray Porter or Pierce Bronson to read your next book.

The story itself...is really good so far....this is why I will push through the nauseating narration even though I have to continually push down the urge to vomit...

Good story, but narrator volume frustratingly quiet sometimes

I listened to this audiobook after thoroughly enjoying “split second”. I definitely plan on listening to more audiobooks from Douglas E Richards!
My biggest problem with this audiobook was the narrator’s voice volume would get very quiet sometimes, like down to a whisper. Great narration when I could hear him. Even with my volume turned all the way up it was very easy to frequently miss important intensely quiet moments because of this, which was frustrating too often.

Story cops out

It def feels like the story takes the cheap way out. I love the premise and was on edge about the genetic mods story line, but the whole “SURPRISE” here’s the answer big twist didn’t feel like a realistic possibility.

Narrator's voice is annoying

Voice annoyingly jumps from loud to quiet and because of that sometimes it is hard to follow.

I liked the first half of the book

Would you try another book from Douglas E. Richards and/or Peter Berkrot?

Probably not.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The characters.

What aspect of Peter Berkrot’s performance would you have changed?

Some of the voices were a little overdone. Most of the male voices were good.

Did WIRED inspire you to do anything?

No.

I wish I had read this years ago!

This was a great action-thriller. Exactly the sort of book I look for given its twist of sci-fi and high energy. There's a great twist near the end. The way the book is concluded, it reads like no part-two was planned. I'm excited to see there is a second release already out there. I'm anxious to read that later this month.

Super fun sci-fi

I love it when I get to the end of a book and the final chapters make it worth the time commitment. That is what happened with this book. I like Dennis Taylor writing and this one did not disappoint either. I thought the narrator was good, not great. Narration is a tricky thing though, because we all hear something in our head differently. I just wasn’t that attracted to this guy’s voice, but he did a fine job anyway. Definitely worth a listen.

Great premise and potential, poor delivery

What did you like best about WIRED? What did you like least?

Story has a great premise in it, and it also starts great, but it becomes a bore and predictable and there isn't any action or surprising or thrilling portion past the half time.
also to make matters worse, the narrator is pretty bad, he whispers a lot which makes it hard to hear (he thinks that that's how women sounds) and this also makes you turn the volume up and down all the time (I listen in the car) which is annoying.

A Bit Too Long-winded But Decent

A few times the author got very long-winded and somewhat repetitive on back-story. The author was also very philosophical and just as long-winded in quite a few situations. They could have been shorter and still delivered the same concepts without loss of quality.

I will say that the twists at the climax of the story were very well done. A few characters were over the top, but this was a story of uber-characters. This was not, and could not, be an "Everyman" type of story.

Good pace

I like the quick pace and the way the story sounds plausible. Good read or listen Peter does good performance.
