About this listen

A survivor of childhood trauma, two marriages, 20 hard years with the Seattle PD, and the bottle, Jonas Piedmont Beaumont has spent far too much time trolling the darker waters of human nature. In the wake of a devastating professional tragedy, he has decided, at long last, to pull the pin. But there is no safety in semiretirement for a man who long ago chose to make a violent world his home.

Temporarily at leisure, Beau has agreed to chaperon his newlywed grandmother on her honeymoon cruise to the Gulf of Alaska. But Beau's brief idyll is abruptly shaken when a security videotape shows a passenger taking a fatal fall overboard. Like it or not, the burden of investigating a heinous crime is once again on his shoulders. Adrift a thousand miles from home, J. P. Beaumont has suddenly found himself submerged in a terrifying conspiracy that, if allowed to proceed unchecked, could have disastrous consequences, not only for Beau and his shipmates but for the future of the world they all hope to return to.

Birds of prey

This book is hard to review. I liked the book and Ron McLarty did a good job narrating this book. But I've listened to the first fifteen or so and Gene Engene narrated all of them so far and I'm used to his voice. I had a hard time getting wrapped up in the story with the change. The story was good but I've got mixed feelings about it. I'll try another one. I do highly recommend this series. J.P. is one of my favorite series. Ron McLarty did do a good job narrating this book . I really liked his voice on Lars. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

Missing Gene Engene as narrator.

J. A. Jance has written another excellent story--BUT--It is hard to listen to another narrator. The voice of J.P. Beaumont is still Gene Engene in my brain. Ron McLarty did an excellent job --it sadly isn't the same.

Great story has a lot of interesting characters.

Author does a good job giving you background into each of the characters and keeps you guessing til the end.

Nice Change

Now on the ocean you know that JP is on the hunt. New narrator. Took a while to get in the groove then all fell in line. Good story, Quick pace. I think you'll like it. Enjoy.

Where is Gene Engene ????

Why on earth would you replace Gene Engene with some New Yorker. The character JP was born and raised in Seattle area. The voice of the new narrator just didn't work which made the book hard to listen to. very disappointed with the change

Awful reader

Terrible reader. Makes Jo Beaumont sound like a wimp! If you’ve listened to previous Beaumont series you will be disappointed as I was’

Want excited about the new narrator

It took me along time to get involved in this book. I had to backtrack a lot. Ron McLarty's voice was a hard one for me. The story was ok.
