About this listen

The world’s greatest thriller writers prove they’re up to a unique challenge in this action-packed, audio-original collection.

It all started with a simple, yet sneakily difficult challenge from global best-selling author Harlan Coben: Pick a bird of prey, then use it as the inspiration for a brand-new story.

The response from some of the best writers on the planet: Game on!

The result: Eleven stories that are twisty, scary, surprising and bursting with imagination. An egg worth more than its weight in gold. A mysterious operative known only as Owl. An eagle-watcher who sees more than she should. Even a story that somehow places the Maltese Falcon in a nursing home.

Birds of Prey: The Harlan Coben Challenge is a highly bingeable audiobook that’s a treat for thriller fans.

Introduced by Harlan Coben, Birds of Prey features these stories:

  • “The Coffin Bearer” by Tess Gerritsen
  • “Precious Cargo” by C.J. Box
  • “Owl” by Kathy Reichs
  • “Kudzu” by Ace Atkins
  • “Predator or Prey?” by Heather Graham
  • “Silent as a Shadow” by S.A. Cosby
  • “Jail Birds” by Hank Phillippi Ryan
  • “The Falcon” by Robert Dugoni
  • “Watchers” by Allison Brennan
  • “Red of Beak and Claw” by Gregg Hurwitz
  • “Hawkshaw Hunting” by Kelley Armstrong

Birds of Prey: The Harlan Coben Challenge was created with International Thriller Writers (ITW). C.J. Box served as project editor.

An Entertaining Collection

This collection of short stories has some entertaining and intriguing stories with a few "Whoas" thrown in. Overall a fun read.

It was nice to see a quirky side of Harlan Coben in the introduction.

A little dry here and there…..

Most of the stories were very good but a few were a bit dry imo. All the performances were very well done!

Great... except for one story.

I couldn't finish one, but all others were enjoyable. I wish there was more on the actual birds.

OMG!

Absolutely positively a hugely talented group of authors. Almost every story was perfect, and none were less than 4.5 stars. My favorites were " Gosh awk Hunting" by Kelley Armstrong, "The Falcon " by Robert Futons and "The Coffin Bearer" by Tess Gerritsen. But the one that made me laugh out loud was "Red Beak and Claw" by Greg Hurwitz. I highly recommend this collection to anyone who loves a well crafted mystery.

the women writers were far better than the men writers with the exception of one.

The women writers stories were far more captivating. The men's didn't seem thought out enough and even boring. Did enjoy the Falcon car story. That was well written.

Fun Listen

Short stories are a challenge, no time for lengthy descriptions or foreshadowing. I generally avoid them because I always wish for more meat. These were all well done, while some were more engaging than others. Same for the narration.

I particularly enjoyed Gerritsen and Brennan's offerings and will look at their catalogues for other listens. I also enjoyed Robert Dugoni's the Falcon.
