Publisher's summary

In the tradition of Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave, the first YA novel from New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz. In one terrifying night, the peaceful community of Creek's Cause turns into a war zone. No one under the age of eighteen is safe. Chance Rain and his older brother, Patrick, have already fended off multiple attacks from infected adults by the time they arrive at the school where other young survivors are hiding.

Most of the kids they know have been dragged away by once-trusted adults who are now ferocious, inhuman beings. The parasite that transformed them takes hold after people turn eighteen - and Patrick's birthday is only a few days away.

Determined to save Patrick's life and the lives of the remaining kids, the brothers embark on a mission to uncover the truth about the parasites - and what they find is horrifying. Battling an enemy not of this earth, Chance and Patrick become humanity's only hope for salvation.

Is there a second book?! Wow!

I totally enjoyed this book! I'm hoping for a continuation of the story. Great listen.

Don't say the "Z" word

This is not a zombie novel. Let me start there. It's a creative take on on that genre that's worth a listen. I've never listened to this narrator before but he did a good job distinguishing the characters and keeping a steady flow in the story. It's not what I expected and although I felt like the ending was a bit lacking... I'll be looking for the sequel. Bottom line: it's worth the credit

Good story with glitches

This is a good audio book, but several chapters actually repeat themselves over exactly the same as the previous chapter.

Another brilliant masterpiece by Gregg Hurwitz!

Loved the story line. Love, love, love the narrator! This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Thankfully book 2 is already written and available in audio form.

If you’re looking for Orphan X keep looking.

I really enjoyed this book. So different from the other Hurwitz books I’ve read. Ignore the negative reviews and give it a try it you like adventure/zombie type stories. It’s good.

I hope there is a sequel to the Rains

I couldn't stop once I started. Narration was spot on. sounded like a kid coming in to puberty. Really do hope there is a sequel.

Incomplete ending

There was so many couple of things that didn’t make sense. The first being that dogs don’t suddenly become wild matter a week let alone a couple of days. The other being a poor ending. It is almost like the author didn’t know where to go from the last chapter and suddenly just ended it.
