Publisher's summary

"Caught between an ancient evil and a man with nothing to lose, a young girl's fate hangs in the balance."

Erin Rogers and her daughter Casey have been missing in the Alaskan wilderness for five days. Troy Spencer is determined to find his sister and niece at any cost. Once there, a local tells Troy about a loner, Bishop, a man shrouded in secrets, who may be his only hope.

As Troy sets out to find the mysterious Bishop, Casey is lost in the woods, alone and frightened, seeking help for her gravely injured mother. But she is not alone. Something ancient stalks these forested trails, something evil that hungers for fresh blood.

The trio soon finds themselves caught in a struggle against time as an ancient rivalry is renewed.

Loved the story

Loved this story. Very interesting plot and excellent writing. My recommendation would be to read it instead of listening to it as I did not like the narration at all and found the narrator to be a distraction from the story.

Wild

Alaskan wilderness and an ancient monster. Nola's writing style really brings the characters andnaction to life in this short and fast paced story. One of the best stories I've read involving Wendigo mythos.

Fiercely fun!

Bishop is a survival story that displays regular people put to extreme tests. It covers some neat indigenous history, offers us its folklore and monsters, and is written in an easy-to-follow narrative.

Nola’s writing isn’t flowery which grips you by the collar and pulls you into her world whether you’re ready or not.

This’ll bite your heart, leaving you begging for more stories by Ms. Nola.

I enjoyed this one!

New Spin on Werewolf Genre

Candace Nola has written a very original take on the werewolf genre and hit a home run. I will certainly be coming back for more by this author who was able to have excellent characterization in such a compact story. I loved her jump cut technique (not sure if that is the proper term), it advanced the story quickly cutting out the fluff which I doubt many authors could pull off. I plan to check out more work by Candace Nola in the future.

Amazing story

A great story, the way the two main characters bonded was sweet without undercutting the tension of rescuing the sister and niece.

Into the Wild, the Cold, and a Monster's Clutches

Candace Nola's Bishop takes us to the wilderness of Alaska, on and off the beaten path in Tongass National Forest, where Troy Spencer is about to begin a desperate search for his sister and niece. Erin and Casey have been missing for a couple of days, and they've been alone in the wilds for nearly a week by the time Troy arrives in Ketchikan to begin the search. Venturing deep into the mountainous wilderness, racing against the clock, he'll settle for nothing less than the best guide he can find. Unfortunately, the most knowledgable guide for those parts of Alaska is a gruff, solitary indigenous man who goes by the name of Bishop, and Bishop is a man of few words and many secrets.
Troy knows he's running out of time, but he has no idea how much danger his family is in, as an ancient and terrible presence exists in the forest, stalking and terrorizing Erin and Casey. Bishop knows it's there, but Troy's proximity limits his ability to do anything about it, and nothing will stop the evil from taking what it wants unless Bishop can free the beast inside of himself.
Candace Nola brings the cold Alaskan wilderness to life, immersing us in the damp, chilly environment from which there might be no escape. Bringing her fascination with survivalism and the tools necessary for survival to bear, Nola brings Casey, Troy, and Bishop to life in vivid detail and three-dimensional depth, forcing us to experience the same tense, disquieting struggle as her characters.
Jamison Walker does a decent job of providing the characters with voices of their own, distinctly separating them.

Fast and fun creature gem

Enjoyable fast paced story about survival in a harsh and unforgiving wilderness landscape made more dangerous by a creature smelling of death that stalks in the night. An equally mysterious and mythical creature fights to protect the protagonist. I really enjoyed the howling sounds and music that transitioned between character POV narration was great! I have never heard anyone talk about this book until I stumbled upon it on a booktok about creature books, so glad I did! Highly recommend!
