Publisher's summary

Thanks to the eradication of the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town's human population is determined to hold onto their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn't taking sides, considering she has ties to both humans and vampires. To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news... or worse.

Do not like new narrator. Voices are backwards.

Do not like new narrator. Voices are backwards. You develop a relationship with the characters, and when a new narrator upends said relationship, I feel like I need to hire a divorce lawyer... quickly. On the other hand, I love the author and the series, therefore I willing to stick it out.

Another good entry in the series

Rachel Caine delivers another good book in this series, but I found this volume a bit more staid. This is still a great book, but the love stories of the 2 main couples are getting a bit tiresome. I think the books could benefit from more action and many more appearances from Myrnin.

PAINFUL

What did you love best about Bitter Blood?

I love all Rachel Caines books in this series. I haven't finished this one yet tho. Will do an edit after I am done.

What did you like best about this story?

Have not finished this book yet.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe?

Cynthia holloway, oh dear mother of all that's holy and sacred, bring back the talented Cynthia holloway!!!!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I developed a migraine listening to Angela Dawe narrate, I am being literal too. She sounds like a mix between Mickey Mouse and a pixie. It is so painful to listen to her I don't know if I can finish with the audiobook. She makes Myrnin sound nothing like how Cynthia portrayed him. Myrnin had spunk and was mischievous and fiery, now he sounds like a monotone pixie speaking.

Any additional comments?

I'll come back when I am through "READING" this book and re-review it.

Love the book, CAN'T STAND ANGELA DAWE!!!

What made the experience of listening to Bitter Blood the most enjoyable?

I do like how Rachel Caine decided to write with different characters' POV. It really helps you get to know the character deeper and understand why they are the way they are. This seems to be the new popular trend with many other authors.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I've always loved Myrnin the best. His quirkiness and compassion and mood swings are just fun.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

NEVER! She does not "perform". She is an extremely boring and mostly monotone reader. When she tries to give character's 'voice', they all sound mostly manly and as though they have emphysema. Lay off the cigarettes and get some talent. That, or PLEASE!, choose a new profession.

Any additional comments?

The story itself is great. I recommend you read it or try to tolerate the less than stellar narrator and give it a listen. Rachel Caine writes an excellent book!

Narrator

Please go back to Cynthia as a narrator. She was so much better than the current.

Rachel Caine does it again!

Another great book by Rachel Caine!

The stories pace picks back up in this book, which I am grateful for! I was worried that it would be another amazing series ruined by the number of books the publishers can squeeze out of the author.

There is a lot of action in this one, along with the usual twists and turns that you don't see coming. A few of the chapters were narrated by other characters (Shane, Micheal, Myrnin, etc.) and while I usually don't like that - the way this one was done worked out well. One of my favorite chapters is by Myrnin, and it truly shows his crazy. I love it.

The ending surprised me, and I can't wait for the next book.

I'm glad it's coming to an end, while I do LOVE this series, how many ways can the residents of the glass house really save Morganville?

Bitter Blood, Book #13: Now we have ghosts!

With the defeat of the draug, a political uproar commences and Naomi is back (from the dead) as the puppet master.

In the midst of that chaos, a reality TV show rolls into Morganville hunting for ghosts.

So, you have a power struggle, outsiders, & ghosts in the mix. What can possibly go wrong?

Listen as our four favorites (Claire, Shane, Eve, and Michael) get trapped in the midst of a politics and a war between the humans and the vampires.

Betrayals, hurt, and questionable loyalties fuel the action in this book.

Keep getting better...

I like Angela Dawe's voice and think that the change to a narrator with a deeper voice came at a time in the series where the characters where naturally maturing. Maturing characters equals more mature voice. (Although I doubt that is the real reason the change was made.)

In general, this series seems to be maturing and improving at a time when it really should be concluding, but as long as they are this good, keep them coming!
