About this listen

It seemed like a simple job. Ex-cop Frank Harper is back in Cooper's Mill to spend time with his daughter and grandson, but a bone-chilling winter has settled over the small Ohio town. When a local woman asks him to make a simple delivery, it seems easy enough - until Frank uncovers a possible murder. Now he's searching for a local couple gone missing. But do the snow and ice conceal a deadly crime, one that may cost Frank everything he holds dear?

Fell in love with the character, Frank Harper, and the story lines. Great action, relationships. Fun read. The first was still my favorite. This one can get more predictable at times. I still look forward the the next one. And the narrator draws you into the story. He's wonderful.

Excellent all around

Ex-cop does good

Frank Harper is a flawed ex-cop with memories he tries to drown in a bottle of bourbon. However, the burgeoning relationship with his estranged daughter, and the joy he finds in getting to know his grandson may save his life. As with his first visit with his daughter in her sleepy little Ohio town, Frank's help is required to solve a mystery which puts his life in danger. This is another edge of your seat thriller with rich, true to life characters that will fill you with anticipation for the next book in the series. Write quickly, Me. Enslen!

Can't wait for the next installment!

I really enjoyed the story and the performance. Even though I had several other stories queued up, different types, different authors, I'm going to get. the next in this series and start it. This story and performance was that good.

The reluctant PI

The character development in this story is amazingly detailed and accurately portrayed. The accurate portrayal, to me, is because the characters bring to mind people I know or have known during my lifetime. The emotional ending broke my heart, yet at the same time left a small sense of hope lingering there. I hope the next book will give the main character the strength to embrace his newfound blessings.

I Know These People!

Confession: I live about 10 miles from "Coopers Mill". I am familiar with all the streets, towns, landmarks, etc mentioned in the story. This increases my enjoyment. I did like "A Field of Red" a bit more but this was good. A couple nitpicks. A character takes an iPhone from another and sends out texts. These phones are password protected so not plausible. Frank works out each morning so is said to be in good shape. Basically he is an alcoholic and has a poor diet so these things don't jive.

Good story by a local author.

Sooo much action and nice detectives make this macho mystery a treat for it's readers.

Loved this mystery

As much as I didn’t care for the author interjecting his own feelings about race issues and the almost uneducated black voice he gave Denise and her husband, I love the mysteries of the cases Frank solves.

Love Frank Harper
