About this listen

An English village can be deadly, when your past catches up with you....

In the beautiful rural Somerset village of Lower Hembrow, crammed full with English eccentrics, something is amiss....

Landscape gardener Imogen Bishop has spent the last 30 years trying to forget one fateful school night but when her estranged husband Greg Bishop is found dead in the grounds of her father's Georgian hotel, danger threatens to overwhelm her.

Retired police officer Adam Hennessey, hoping for a peaceful life running his traditional Somerset country pub, finds himself drawn into the unfolding drama in the hotel across the road.

Imogen, Adam and Harley the stray dog form an unlikely partnership as they try to untangle a knot of secrets, solve a murder mystery and bring a killer to justice.

Great characters and narration, but

the plot wasn't the best. Almost over the top formulaic. However, I really liked the protagonists and setting.

very British whodunit, fun

I wasn't crazy about the end, which was far-fetched, but on the whole enjoyed it.

Slow beginning

The beginning was slow but after a few chapters I was hooked. Interesting twists and turns.

Briljant book

The writer kept us guessing the whole time. Well written and loved the combined efforts of the two main characters

An enjoyable British Mystery

I enjoyed A Village Murder. The voices were well performed and it moved quickly keeping my interest. I listened to it as an Audible Plus before it “retired” out. For me, a satisfying “read.”

Way too cosy

Too much like a tv series which I guess is the authors ambition but wearying on the imagination and with 2 hrs left I quit

Sweet (and sinister) mystery

This was the perfect length story of a mystery in a small, quaint town. The characters were likable and the plot was engaging. However, my favorite part was that there was no foul language and they did not use God’s name as a swearword. It’s so hard to find well written books like this. Thank you, Frances Evesham. I will definitely be reading more of your books!
