Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Black Sheep is read by Natalie Simpson, star of Les Misérables.

Abigail Wendover has no time for love.

She is far too busy protecting her niece, who has fallen madly in love with a suspected fortune-hunter.

But her efforts become vastly more complicated with the arrival of Miles Calverleigh, the black sheep of his family - a reckless bachelor with a scandalous past.

Abby soon discovers that, despite successfully managing her niece's love life, she has far less control over her own unruly heart.

A classic Georgette Heyer regency romance

Highly recommended. Sophisticated plot, beautifully drawn characters. Superb narration and characterization. No one like GH.

A favorite

Wonderful listening. Best author of course but also great narrator. Characters were developed true to their original origins.

Fun story

I have always loved this book. The narrator did an ok job but some of her pronunciations seemed odd and when I looked up the English pronunciation as opposed to US pronunciation on a few of the words they did not match either version. Other than that it was all good

A clean and classical Regency romance

I never, ever, ever read Romance novels until someone recommended Barbara Metzger and Georgette Heyer. Metzer's books are almost parodies and hilarious. However, Heyer is wonderful when she's on her game. She was not very good at plots and this one is very similar to A Lady of Quality. Both are good and a fun read. A young orphan is raised by her two spinster aunts who try to keep their charge from eloping with, as he was considered, a gazette fortune hunter.

The fortune hunter's uncle, a known rake and slightly disreputable man, arrives in town for an unknown purpose and he promptly fails in love with one of the aunts. Hijinks ensue. :)

Heyer at her drollest

The relationship between Abby and Calverleigh is one of Heyer’s funniest. It’s too bad the narrator is so dismal. She reads Abby as a shrew and fails at her attempt to give Mr. C. a languid drawl. Most of the time it sounds as if she has never seen the text before. It’s better to read this hilarious romp on your own.

Well done.

I like this narrator. She did a good job changing voices without sounding ridiculous. Great story but the finale was a bit abrupt.

One of my favorites

Excellent voicing, wonderful story. I agree with others that the ending is a bit abrupt.

Abrupt ending

In general I like this author but she spent so much time creating the dilemma of the situation and then just ended the story. I didn’t enjoy the ending at all.

bring back the old recordings

Why did Penguin audio replace all the old, masterful recordings of Heyer's books with these new, subpar recordings? This reader does an ok job but mispronounced words and sometimes overacts. The old recording was much better. Enjoyable story though. Love georgette heyer!
