About this listen

Thirteen-year-old Julie Whitaker was kidnapped from her bedroom in the middle of the night, witnessed only by her younger sister. Her family was shattered, but managed to stick together, hoping against hope that Julie is still alive. And then one night: the doorbell rings. A young woman who appears to be Julie is finally, miraculously, home safe. The family is ecstatic - but Anna, Julie's mother, has whispers of doubts. She hates to face them. She cannot avoid them. When she is contacted by a former detective turned private eye, she begins a torturous search for the truth about the woman she desperately hopes is her daughter.

Propulsive and suspenseful, Good as Gone will appeal to fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, and keep listeners guessing until the final minutes.

The plot had lots of twists and kept you guessing to the end. Love Karen Peakes. Just found her and will look for her narrations.

Much better than expected

Any additional comments?

Overall I enjoyed the storyline. However, the perspectives and multitude of character names made it very difficult to follow at times. There was never any pause or indication of a change in perspective as I assume the print version would include page breaks or the new perspective's name.

Perspectives switch without notice

I appreciate the story, concept, etc. but once I caught on to what's happening, all of it becomes predictable as far as the predator and the involvement of religion. Once I finally predicted what happened, there was still 3 hours left to listen to and it became frustrating as the sad prose seemed to drag on. I just didn't prefer the dragging on of the depressing language & it dwindled away at my interest

A bit disappointed

This book only got more interesting through to the end. It was worth it.

Not particularly suspenseful - a bit dark - drags a bit. Not one of my favorites in this category

Didn’t love this

Loved it!! I didn't want the car ride to be over. It keeps you guessing until the end.

Great listen!

The story takes you in from the very first chapter and doesn't let go. Alternating timelines unfold in a way that keeps you guessing. It shares some elements in common with other immensely popular novels (especially Gone Girl and Girl on the Train), so this would likely be enjoyable to people who liked those. The performance is also excellent - the actor's voice is pleasant and she provides just enough character in the voices to give them color without being distracting. This is an excellent summer listen, but watch out: I got sucked in and ended up listening to all 7 hours in 2 days!

A gripping story well-told.

I loved this story, and listened twice in a row, to go back and find clues.
