About this listen
As the novel moves backward and forward in time, from Quinn's boyhood on Blackwood Farm to present-day New Orleans, from ancient Athens to 19th-century Naples, Quinn seeks out the legendary Vampire Lestat in the hope of freeing himself from the specter that draws him inexorably back to Sugar Devil Swamp and the explosive secrets it holds.
A story of youth and promise, of loss and the search for love, of secrets and destiny, Blackwood Farm is Anne Rice at her mesmerizing best.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

In a new and major novel, the creator of fantastic universes of vampires and witches takes us now into the world of Isaiah and Jeremiah and the destruction of Solomon's Temple, to tell the story of Azriel, Servant of the Bones. He is ghost, genii, demon, angel - pure spirit made visible. He pours his heart out to us as he journeys from an ancient Babylon of royal plottings and religious upheavals to Europe of the Black Death and on to the modern world. There he finds himself, amidst the towers of Manhattan, in confrontation with his own human origins.

Story
In the days before the Civil War, there lived in New Orleans the gens de couleur libre - copper-skinned half-castes, liberated by their "owners," but confined by their color to a life of political non-existence and social subordination. Here is a compelling and richly textured tale of a people forever caught in the shadows between black and white.

Blackwood Farm: A Strange and Lovely World
If you're a fan of Anne Rice's usual antics, this novel will not disappoint. The story is quite interesting and unique, for all its ghosts and vampires and great families, a bit of a star crossed lovers tale with the flavor of New Orleans. If you haven't read Rice before, don't be scared off by the other reviews of reservations of sexual situations. The prose in this story is rich and descriptive and the characters complex and beautiful as Bellini angels. Her love of fine antiques and lush tropical flora particularly shine in this tale.Pittu's narration is also very entertaining and well done, quite a treat! His voice encompasses an impressive range of characters, from the french accent of the vampire Lestat to Quinn Blackwood's educated southern drawl. Blackwood Farm is an excellent creation by Rice.

Never a dull moment
It seems the audible critics either love it or hate it. I for one really enjoyed the book. There was always a lot going on in each chapter. The book is written from the viewpoint of an 18 year old boy, who had a very unusual childhood. Don't expect the maturity and rational thought of an adult and you will enjoy the book as much as I did. I think she did a fantastic job merging the withches and the vampires. Worth it!

Perfectly Prepared Rice
I have read the book before. It is another Rice triumph. A must read. Blah-Blah-Blah. But I have stopped my new audio version in the middle of chapter five to see who this magnificent narrator, David Pittu is. His voice is like candy to my ears, youthful and attractive, velvety and rich. Best of all are his range of characters and accents. When he started to do the voice of an aging southern belle, I nearly fell out of bed laughing. He nailed it! I could scarcely believe it was still him. His characters are enchanting, his accents are flawless and his voice is like butter. This audio book does not disappoint.

Perfect
The narrator is amazing. He should have read Armand's story with his youthful sounding voice.

Beautiful and brilliant
The journey was thorough and vivid. Louisiana culture … mixed heritage and spirits… secrets and familiars - I don’t want to give anything away but now I will be delving into the Mayfair Witches and I didn’t care about them before. I only wanted the vampires. The narration by David Pittu was so satisfyingly versatile

Blackwood Farm
Excellent! True to her prior books, Ann Rice weaves together the Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches. Lestat is back along with others from the past, eg Rowan Mayfair, Michael Curry, Mona Mayfair, etc. Grips from beginning to end. Must also read Blood Canticle as it is almost a BF part 2...
