About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author, Rebecca Zanetti, comes a new Scorpius Syndrome/A Brigade Novella…

Hugh Johnson is nobody’s hero, and the idea of being in the limelight makes him want to growl. He takes care of his brothers, does his job, and enjoys a mellow evening hanging with his hound dog and watching the sports channel. So when sweet and sexy Ellie Smithers from his college chemistry class asks him to save millions of people from a nuclear meltdown, he doggedly steps forward while telling himself that the world hasn’t changed and he can go back to his relaxing life. One look at Ellie and excitement doesn’t seem so bad.

Eleanor Smithers knows that the Scorpius bacteria has and will change life as we know it, but that’s a concern for another day. She’s been hand-picked as the computer guru for The Brigade, which is the USA’s first line of defense against all things Scorpius, including homegrown terrorists who’ve just been waiting for a chance to strike. Their target is a nuclear power plant in the east, and the only person who can help her is Hugh, the sexy, laconic, dangerous man she had a crush on so long ago.

Short story set early in the Scorpius pandemic story

Interesting story that could be read after the 1st or 2nd book. An ok love story with action around the Brigade and securing the nuclear facilities. Narration is ok but not great.

Plot good, but

The narrator ruined it, especially with his painful Scottish accent. Annoying enough to make me stop reading.

Good Read

Rebecca Zanetti writes another great story. The reading was mostly good and I could tell difference between characters; but, he read most of the story in an "excited voice". It was a little distracting to story. I kept thinking, "Oh good grief! Not again." First time I've listened to narrator and his sound is pleasant; but... keep the over excitement in mind or read yourself. Don't miss out on the story.

Back to the beginning!

Despite where this novella is listed, in the series, this novella is set at the beginning of the pandemic outbreak. These characters are a part of homeland security that is charged with the security of the nuclear power plants. They address several security risks and rekindle their college friendship, in the process. It was an ok story, especially since it was part of the Romance package and didn’t cost me a credit. As with most novellas, it was too short and I don’t understand why the author chose to place this story in the series, at this time. Perhaps the next novel will answer this question.

Blaze Erupting by Rebecca Zanetti

Blaze Erupting by Rebecca Zanetti
4.5 of the Scorpius Syndrome series. Romantic suspense, second chance troupe. While this is a story that takes place in the middle of the series, it can also be read as an introduction to the world events. I recommend it be read in order.

WARNING: A Virus is killing people around the world. This book was written several years ago and has no connection to 2020 issues.
But it’s got some eerie similarities.

Ellie and Hugh team up to prevent the nuclear plant from being used by homegrown terrorists. They have to fight for their lives against huge odds and infected survivors and preppers.
Their long ago attraction from their college years escalates to fever pitch and it’s a race to win the day.

Drama and suspense. Romance and kick butt action. Sexy hot too.
Loved it.
The narrator did a great job with the emotions and voice variations.
