Critic reviews

"Jane gets into a complicated stew involving human and vampire rivalries, the ancient vampire-witch conflict, the New Orleans police, and her need to balance her beast and human natures. What with puzzles, chases (including a climactic one to rescue children), lots of blood, and some explicit sex, count on this to please thriller and dark romance fans alike." ( Booklist)

Love Khristine Hvam!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! I love Jane! She's so capable and willing to do what she needs to but she also does what she loves!

What other book might you compare Blood Cross to and why?

I would have to say Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. Both stories center around a kick butt woman who goes after vampires.

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Khristine Hvam brings out the sarcasm of Jane. I love how she voices Jane.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think the whole book kept my attention and I found myself always cheering Jane on or sympathizing with her. Faith Hunter and Khristine Hvam do an awesome job with the story.

Any additional comments?

I haven't listened to any other books narrated by Khristine Hvam but I have read another series by Faith Hunter. The Rogue Mage trilogy is wonderful!! I love Thorn St. Croix. If you like the way Faith Hunter writes you should really check out the Rogue Mage novels: Bloodring, Seraphs, and Host (in order).

Vampires and Witches, Oh my.

Faith Hunter weaves a marvelous tale again in the Jane Yellowrock saga. She puts a fantastic spin on the origins of vampirism in this tale and ties in all the characters from the first novel. A completely satisfying listen and nice conclusion to the story's events. Christine Hvam is wonderful in her performance and if I'm being honest. The reason I chose this series. I am not a fan of vampires and vampire lore. But these stories are entertaining.

More exciting that book 1

I liked this storyline better than book 1. The character development is a little richer and there's more excitement throughout.

The narrator did a good job again, no complaints there. There's a little romance in this one, but nothing too steamy. I'll probably listen to book 3 at some point, but decided to take a break and listen to something else first.

Ear candy

What did you love best about Blood Cross?

Fast paced, twists and turns, continuing development of characters.

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

For one it is a pleasure to listen to her voice, just the right amount of character to make people easy to differentiate but not so much as to make it irritating. And then I had saved this book as a bribe to myself during window washing (which I hate) and that made the whole experience quite pleasurable.

Any additional comments?

Got the next one before I even started this one. Now onto no 4.

This series is rocking my socks off!

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Tracking Books Read Review (Short)
Overall Rating: 4.50
Story Rating: 4.75
Character Rating: 4.25

Audio Rating: 4.50 (Not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Blood Cross sealed the deal: I am totally invested in Jane/Beast (not so much their love life though)!

Overall Thoughts: Oddly enough on paper, I really shouldn't like this series as much as I do. There is a love triangle. There is a small bit of angst (dual personalities lend to that). Jane at times has a very "young" type of attitude. However, I am really digging the mystery and world building involved with the Jane Yellowrock series. In this particular story, I enjoyed getting to know her best friend and kiddos. Also the rogue storyline was freaking amazing and the end gutted me! I won't say it caused tears but it did cause me to gasp. Faith knows how to pack a punch and that is why I overlook the elements that drive me crazy.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Khristine Hvam / Length: 14 hrs and 48 mins

Khristine does an amazing job with Jane/Beast. She is one of my favorite narrators but this seems to be her sweet spot. She nails the emotion, pacing, and "bite your nails" moments with such accuracy that you just get swept up into the story. Great job!

Final Thoughts: I have already read book 3 and got my hands on book 4 & 5 (in audio of course)!

I like this series so far.

Hope the next book measures up to the first two. Good intrigue. Keeps the reader interested in what's going to happen next.
