About this listen

Six years ago, my world was ripped from under me, and I was taken to Cardinal Three, a place where pain has been my endless companion. Witches, demons, shifters, and humans all live under one rule: King's. What he says goes. So trying to get the hell out of here hasn’t been easy. No one leaves without his permission. In fact, no one leaves at all—that is, not alive.

But I have a plan, one chance to get out of this nightmare once and for all. One month is all I need, one month to stay off King's radar and get the last few items needed for the spell I’ve been working on. Shouldn’t be that hard, right?

But turns out King has his own plan, one that involves trading me off to the five shifters of Manhattan. With King's ultimatum, I have no choice but to go through with it. But I’m still getting out of here, no matter what. Or so I thought. Turns out the five shifters are my mates…and also the boys I left behind six years ago.

Blood and Ruin is a paranormal romance and the first installment in the Blood and Ruin trilogy. The FMC will not have to choose between her five love interests, but the story is action packed and contains violence, adult themes, bad-language, and content some may find upsetting.

Good, could be better

The storyline was interesting enough but I really wanted this FMC to do something. Yeah she fights back a little bit but always loses. All she really does is get her ass beat. She hardly speaks and when she does she’s lying. Yet all the guys just declare their love. The narrators did a great job though. But it’s not enough for me to continue the series

It was pretty ok

It was one fight scene after another, a lot of losing, and getting their ass beat. You don’t really get to fall in love with any of the characters because it’s just fight scene after fight scene. Life is hard enough, I don’t want to read entire books of hopelessness. I am going to read the second book and hope it gets better.

Self Sacrificing - Trope Spoilers

Second time reading this book. 📕 First time listening to it. 🎧I remember enjoying it when I read it around a year ago. I’m a sucker for a secretly suffering FMC in a RH with the guys unaware and ‘lashing’ out emotional due to her seemingly cruel behavior. I think that and the plot twist are done very well and still had its grip on me the second time around. However, there just isn’t enough interaction between the characters on page for me to buy into their feelings for each other. This leads to the spice and tension and heartfelt confessions falling flat.

The story tells the me what each individuals character is rather than allowing me to develop a sense of each individual’s character. The FMC can be altruistic without constantly self sacrificing- AND telling the reader that they are self sacrificing. I only need to get a hint of her intentions to make sense of her character,
