About this listen

Yule is a time to celebrate the rebirth of the light, but for Preternatural Private Investigator and Paranormal Huntress Kassandra Lyall, it's about solving yet another series of crimes.

When a couple disappears from their quiet neighborhood home, Detective Arthur Kingfisher brings Kassandra in on the case. Faced with a bloody symbol painted on the couple's bedroom wall, the cops are stumped. That is, until they find a body and their missing person's report becomes a full-blown murder investigation.

Kassandra realizes that someone is targeting the pagan community. The investigation brings up some heavy emotions, making it harder for her to play human in front of the law enforcement officers she works with.

In the midst of aiding the police, Kassandra finally finds herself at serious odds with Sheila Morris, the local werewolf pack's Alpha female, when Sheila decides to abuse someone very dear to Kassandra. A certain Alpha has a bone to pick. The question is: Who's going to pick it first?

Book Three in the Kassandra Lyall Series.

Love this series!

Winter Pennington’s book Bloody Claws and the two previous books are outstanding! The characters are amazing and have depth. I love reading books about witches, shapeshifters and vampires, plus having lesbian romance.... HOT! I so recommend this book. Kassandra Lyall’s relationship issues with Lenorre has its funny and touching moments. I love Paige McKinney’s narration. She is one of my favorite narrators. Her speech rate for Lenorre took a bit of getting used to, but after book 3 I find is very fitting for Countess Lenorre.

***SEX SPOILER!!***
The ménage à trois may not be for some liking, but I absolutely loved it. WOW!! **fanning myself**. 😉

Amazing series!

Winter Pennington has such a grasp of storytelling! I have listened to and enjoyed all 3 books in the Kassandra Lyall series and have spent the last couple of weeks trying to track done anyone who has a copy of Nightbound, the 4th book in this series, with no luck. It is out of print and unavailable either in hard copy or ebook. I’m not sure why Bold Strokes doesn’t even mention it on their site, since they are listed as the publisher, but I am so hoping that Audible will try to complete the series by making the final book available. In reading thru the reviews on Amazon.com for the third book in the series it seems others had also tried unsuccessfully to locate Nightbound. The way this book ends just leaves you wanting more and knowing the author had extended the story in Nightbound, I hope somehow/someway that Nightbound will make an appearance on Audible!

Love, love, love this series!

Wish there were more in this series, altho I feel like the author left it open to do so. I continue to be pleasantly surprised at the depth of the characters and how the plot unfolded. I really enjoyed this author and am looking forward to reading/hearing more of her stuff. Highly recommended!

kind of boring

Kassandra is a wimp . She hasn't shown me anything but her weakness for sex , and she's not even that good
at that. Her girlfriend talks like a robot. I have done all 3 and I just hoped it got better. Its not enough action for
all those hours. Step it up Winter its kind of getting chilly. I don't like them together she should be the wolves
or another wolf.

60% Porn

This book is very obviously catering to a different audience than me. At least half of the word count is talking about sex or someone convincing another to have sex.

The remainder of the book revolves around a mystery that really couldn't be solved with the clues at hand, so the protagonist naturally turns to the supernatural for help. When she does, the book quickly mentions how "power" is needed for this and that and how it'll be necessary to move forward.

What is this "power" that is constantly brought up? Put simply, it's an excuse to have sex with someone. This unfortunately means that gaining power through sex supplants most of the character growth you'd expect. Why everyone else is swapping power and why the protagonist can't get it any other way (while everyone else seems to, even unintentionally) is not considered.

Ultimately, the fact that nobody in the story has an ounce of restraint and that wanton promiscuity is the objective of every interaction, overshadows the actual plot of this story.

Not My Favorite

Although I can't seem to get enough of these characters and their lives this was my least favorite installment in the series. The mystery was interesting and the addition of a new and powerful baddie was cool but it was overshadowed for me by Kassandra's angst and Roslyn's weirdness. The audiobook was marred by the narrator overacting the dialogue again.

I hope someday the saga continues but if it does and it is narrated by the same person, I will stick to reading the ebook.
