Publisher's summary

An investigation leads DI Kelly Porter back to her former command...and the ex who betrayed her.

A brutal murder in the Lake District. A double assassination in a secret lab in London’s West End. Seemingly unconnected, unexpected links between the gruesome crimes emerge, and it’s up to DI Kelly Porter to follow the trail - all the way to the capital.

Back among old colleagues and forced to work alongside her calculating ex, DCI Matt Carter, Kelly must untangle a web of deceit that stretches into the highest echelons of power - a place where secrets and lies are currency and no obstacle is insurmountable.

Really enjoyed this story!

I think that this is the best plot yet. One more book to go in this series. I hope that Rachel Lynch will come up with a few more story lines for this series, with Clare Kissane narrating.

Great book, terrible recording quality

I’ve been enjoying the whole Kelly Porter series, but they all suffer from distorted recording to a greater or lesser extent. In these days of digital recording, this is totally inexcusable. It’s a shame as the stories are great and so is the narration.

Good

Good crime procedural listen. I was skeptical but, found I like Kelly Porter. Will keep listening to the series.

Fabulous series!

There are so many "DI" books out there, and most of the ones I've read are average at best. The Kelly Porter series is on an entirely different level. The main character is tough, good at her job, and while flawed (like every human being) she's not unpleasant. She's not a raging alcoholic, she doesn't treat her family and co-workers horribly, and she's capable of maintaining a steady romantic relationship with very little drama. These books are substantial when many others fall flat. This one tackles big pharma, and is beautifully read, as always, by Clare Kissane (who sounds very similar to the talented Lucy Price-Lewis). I'm so glad I found this author. I highly recommend the entire series.

The scientific and descriptive details

Another great detective novel by a superb, highly researched author. I witnessed it all in my mind die of Rachel Lynch's edge-of-my-seat storytelling.

Gripping ingenious and timely

This is an outstanding crime novel. What a great series. The locations are lovingly described. The characters are interesting and real. The underlying premise of the murders is all too real. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys gripping, conspiracy based police mysteries.

LOVE it ALL... but

I just love the series, the author & the narrator. I'm dying to give it 5, so why a 4? Potty mouths do not bother me at all. And I'm far from a fanatic, but why is it OK to use Jesus' name as an expletive? Does any other segment in a diverse community tolerate something similar? I literally flinch each time I hear it. Especially because it is used so generously, nearly exclusively, in these books. I heard 'the F word' ONCE & it was refreshing! Having someone slap you several times a conversation surely puts a damper on the enjoyment of the novel.

Bold lies

Hard to follow. Kept thinking I missed things. Had to keep going back but didn’t find anything. Had to assume too much.
