About this listen

Love sees deep below the surface.

In the aftermath of WWII, widowed Sarah is dragged to a carnival by friends where she's riveted by the unearthly gaze of the tattooed man in the freak show. When this sensitive soul hides in her hayloft after escaping imprisonment by the evil carnival owner, Sarah shelters Tom on her farm. Deeply drawn to the quiet yet powerfully magnetic man, Sarah fights her attraction while learning about his mysterious past and gentle nature.

When a child goes missing, Tom uses his psychic gift to find her, but his assistance doesn't stop the locals' mistrust of such an exotic stranger. Small-town prejudice tears the lovers apart and a very real threat from the carnival owner endangers them both. Can Tom and Sarah rise above obstacles of fear and hatred to create the family both have always craved?

This was a sweet and funny book but the narrator was way to deliberate and slow.

First time listening to this author, the story is beautiful and the characters are well presented.

The story was refreshing in ways that brought out some frustration at how we as people then and now can be sooo small minded under the guise of what is best for ourselves and others.

I read a few reviews prior to digging into the story and came across many regarding the narration and the female taking advantage of the guy. SMH!

First, I believe I have an appreciation for oratory in all forms. Yet, this particular narrator has a smooth laxadazy southern drawl that would seem perfect for those slow burn kind of sesual books. However, her warm and cozy ease in this book did sometimes feel like it lacked the proper amount of intensity in certain areas of the story. Yet, the book presents as a girl in a sleepy town with sleepy people personalities.

Secondly, I have to say that a man is a man, is a man. One comment eluded to the fact that TOM was perhaps mentally stunted and this book was bad, like it promoted taking advantage of people with those struggles. Yet, Tom with his lack of positive experiences may have been selfishly shelter for the benefit of others, men of all mental capacities want companionship. And all they desire is consent. I found his depiction to be interesting and telling. Regardless, to his perceived normalcy , he wants what everyone desires acceptance and love.

This story was unique and yet a familiar narrative

It was a good story. As I don’t have time to sit down and read it was great. The pace was a little slow but I would have missed a good book if I had put away. Thank you Natasha for reading it to me.

Good story

When you need that easy love story this one is a good choice. It became predictable by the middle, but still kept me listening until the end. I have a little bit of a blah feeling now that it’s over so I guess it lost it’s pizzazz by the end.

That all said, the narrator was not my favorite. A bit of advice? Increase the playback speed to 1.5, it helps a lot!

Lighthearted love story

She frustrated me with her plain ignorance. I know the era was challenging but she made their time harder.

This story is everything a love story should be! I adored the main characters and their connection. But, I almost didn’t get past Chapter 1 since I hated the Narrator’s reading of the story. She sounded like she was reading in slow motion and I was about ready to throw my iPad. However, her characters were really good! When she did the characters, she made sure you could distinguish between them, which made me pay attention to the story. Totally worth suffering through her narration!

Beautiful Story
