About this listen

Lieutenant Eve Dallas struggles with the end - and the beginning - of life in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.

Just as Eve Dallas begins to investigate the grisly double homicide of two young lovers - both employees of the same prestigious accounting firm - her friend Mavis need a favor. One of the moms-to-be in Mavis’s birthing class has gone missing. Normally, such a case would be turned over to Missing Persons. But Mavis wants no one else on the job - and Eve can’t say no.

Now Eve’s trying to track down the missing woman, while simultaneously unearthing the deals and double-crosses hidden in the files of some of the city’s richest and most secretive citizens, in a race against this particularly vicious killer. Luckily, her multimillionaire husband Roarke’s expertise comes in handy with the number crunching. But as he mines the crucial data that will break the case wide open, Eve faces an all too real danger in the world of flesh and blood.

"The audio skips smoothly along, connecting subplots blithely, and Susan Ericksen never misses a beat." ( AudioFile)

One feel good story

Although I’m addicted to most all of J.D. Robb’s Eve Dallas stories this one, Born in Death, is one of my favorites. It has everything from side splitting humor to nail biting angst-

It is the kind of story most would-be writers can only wish to present to an audience of thrill seeking readers and listeners. Susan Erickson is the perfect narrator giving each character their own personality story after story so that everyone portrayed in every book is readily recognizable instantly.

A feel good listen with or without being a mom!

Babies, Babies and more!

Where does Born in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

No sure. The "In-death" series is my favorite and all installments including the novella's are excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot and sub-plots and that the story moves quickly. Lots of emotion in this one!

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have listened to Susan almost thru the entire series. I love how she has each main, secondary and guest voices down to a science. You can always tell who's speaking. The series (audio) would be nothing without her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh out loud funny!

Any additional comments?

I would have given this one 5 stars because I was laughing out loud due to the reactions of birthing classes Eve and Roarke attended for Mavis! This really is 4 1/2 stars, what was missing for me was more of Dr. Mira. She played a very small part in this and I like the way she handles Eve, almost as good as Roarke. Not only was this installment (#23) laugh out loud but it was awesome to see Roarke actually lose his cool to the degree of rage. It's funny that he got so pissed with the NYPSD for covering their butts even though he knew that they had every right to do so. It was disturbing to see Eve almost lose her cool and start to cry. I didn't think she could but that just shows how much she loves Roarke and treasures their relationship. Summerset was cool and controlled until Mavis asked him for a particular favor, that part almost had me in tears!

A double murder and a missing person, WOW, Eve really had a lot on her plate this time around. Very interesting plot line and the story moved pretty quickly, never a dull moment. Babies, babies and more babies. I loved that Eve had to give the shower but even gladder (?) that Peabody took over. (LOL) I will definitely read this one again!

Book 23 of the Best Series Ever!

The 'In Death' series, written by J.D. Robb & narrated by Susan Ericksen, is a futuristic suspense series. The story is set in mid-21st-century New York City & it centers around Lieutenant Eve Dallas & her billionaire husband, Roarke.

My husband & I both love all of the J.D. Robb, 'In Death' series. We first began listening to them when they were on CDs. We've listened to the entire series, in order, three times so far! If we're driving somewhere, you can be sure Eve, Roarke, Peabody, McNab, Capt. Feeney, Mavis, Dr. Mira, Nadine, Summerset & the rest of the gang are in the truck with us. We love all of the major characters & look forward, with anticipation, to the new audiobooks that come out in February & September every year!

If you're looking for an awesome mystery series, a little romance with a bit of the futuristic thrown in, then you'll love this series! Believe me, you just can't go wrong, but be warned... once you get started, you'll be hooked!

I loved it.

Classic Nora -- fantasy, mystery, love, and suspense, all wrapped up with a ridiculously happy ending. The narrator does a great job and it's just great, fun, escape.

Funny, capturing, sad .... did I mention VERY funny?

I listen to the story in bed, at the end of the day, instead of watching the boring car shows (fixing the old & making the new, recreating for auctions...etc) and/or Pawn shop shows...you know, the guy's choice when they have the TV remote control. I set for the book to turn off at the end of the chapter just in case I fall asleep. But I end up laughing, cracking up, and now I am being watched by my spouse. Most times I share with my husband: How Roark and Eve act when Mavis has the baby....what Eve says as the head come out and the thought was just so hilarious! Just as funny as what Roark says when Even suggests that she (at the end of bed, where Mavis's the legs are spread) and Roark (at the head of the bed) switch places: His retort to that and to most everything to do with the Prego-Mavis were hilarious!

The story was creative (as most of them are in the Death Series), chilling, and well, a story w/o humor is not that impressive. But hey, listen to the Death series and make an opinion all your own.

What I don't like about the series is that in many/most or if not every one of the stories: Bad man 1 kills bad man 2 or when two other characters in the book hurt each other ... they have a mind to this own, nothing to do with Eve and Eve sits their and has a fit "I should've done this or that...." and takes the actions of someone else and complains, whines, kicks the desk because she is the one to blame: The only thing going on is Eve having her asinine fit. And she is like a spoiled brat: I don't wanna go to sleep now..... I don't wanna eat now..... then Roark has to literally treat her like a child, scold her, make/trick her take her medicine. I like Eve, but I wish she hadn't turned into such a spoiled brat (at times).

Good story as usual. A little predictable but good

A good story. Even though her stories are a bit formulaic, they are great characters and that makes up for it!!
