About this listen

When a brilliant young researcher is kidnapped, DarkRiver sentinel Mercy, a cat, and SnowDancer lieutenant Riley, a wolf, must work together to track the young man - before his shadowy captors decide he's no longer useful. Along the way, the two dominants may find that submitting to one another uncovers not just a deadly conspiracy, but a passion so raw that it'll leave them both branded by fire.

Critic reviews

"One of the greatest pleasures of these books is their ability to deliver both an intensely personal love story as well as a riveting societal drama. Singh is on the fast track to becoming a genre giant!" ( Romantic Times)

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Would you listen to Branded by Fire again? Why?

If/ when I decide to re-listen, it will be to the entire series. (I'm the type to power-listen first to find out what happens, then go back and re-listen for the enjoyment factor.) This whole series is so much fun - I'm actually looking forward to starting from the beginning when it's all done.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Branded by Fire?

I liked that this story was between a wolf and a leopard. It added a new twist, but also meant this book had some extra steam since it involved the physical needs of 2 changelings. More hotness? Why yes, please!

Did Angela Dawe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Meh. It's hard to tell characters apart sometimes, even between the throaty women and the raspy men, but she doesn't make me cringe, so yeah. Asi asi, gracias.

Any additional comments?

This series continues to pay off. I paid for this book ($20 with audible member discount) and feel like I got my money's worth. Here we go book 7!

Great series!!!! This is my favorite series. Each book builds on the overall world while keeping you interested in the individual romances. A few of the book were about secondary characters that I didn’t care about at the beginning and absolutely loved by the end. This review applies to the first 9 books in the series.

Mercy & Riley is one of my favs of this series. This story was very well written and centered on the couple getting together dealing with 2 predatory high rank lieutenants from different Changeling packs. 1 is wolf 1 is leopard. The storyline as well as the sub plots progressed fluidly. And we find out Sasha the leopard alphas mate is pregnant 😃

Fantastic

Wolf and cat, wouldn't normally think so but who knows! Love can show up anywhere!

Another unusual mating.

I love the way the story is read. A narrator can make or break a story and Angela Dawe is excellent. There are very few narrators that read series that make me seek out their other work and she is one of them. The way this series is read is not to fast and not too slow. It definitely keeps you in suspence. It also helps that Nalini Singh tells a great story. My only complaint is I want more of the Psy-Changeling novels faster.

Angela Dawe is excellent.

If you are worried about whether or not to continue the series because books 4 and 5 weren’t as good as 1-3, do not fear!! This one is amazing and some of the best in the series are also yet to come!! I’m actually about to listen to this book for the third time in 2 years haha. Mercy and Riley are the best!

One of the best of the whole series!!

This one starts with a bang, true to Mercy’s character. The production seems a bit off with long pauses in unusual places, but the narrator’s voice fits the story, as does the acting.

Another good fiction story

Book 6 is a Changeling to Changeling pairing. Mercy, a Leopard Changeling and Riley, a Wolf Changeling.

I am loving the progress from story to story. I enjoy seeing past book characters as well as new characters. For such a dominant wolf, Riley was more sensitive than I was expecting. I liked that about him.

Mercy is also a dominant female and unfortunately she came off too hard to me. Her expectations seemed to be really high as well. She wanted a more dominant male but there seemed to be a fine line for her expectations of Riley. I guess it was a good thing he had that sensitive side to him that kept him from being too dominant for Mercy.

Still very good, I just didn't enjoy Mercy as much as I have past heroines in the series.

Hardened heroine
