Publisher's summary

Bread & Wine is a literary feast about the moments and meals that bring us together.

New York Times best-selling author Shauna Niequist offers an enchanting mix of funny and vulnerable storytelling in this collection of recipes and essays about the surprising and sacred things that happen when people gather around the table.

With beautiful and evocative writing, Shauna explores the sweet and savory moments when family and friends sit down together. She invites us to see how God teaches and feeds us even as we nourish the people around us and ponders how hunger, loneliness, and restlessness lead us back to the table again.

Part cookbook and part spiritual memoir, Bread & Wine illuminates how sharing food together mirrors the way we share our hearts with each other and with God. And it explores what it means to follow a God who reveals his presence in breaking bread and passing a cup.

For anyone who has found themselves swapping stories over plates of pasta, sharing take-out on the couch, laughing over a burnt recipe, and lingering a little longer for one more bite...this book is for you.

Recreate the meals that come to life in each essay with recipes for Goat Cheese Biscuits, Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Mango Chicken Curry, Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Toffee, and many other wonderful dishes. A satisfying listen for heart and body, this book is one you'll want to keep close at hand all year round.

Life, Love, & Recipes

If you want to know what this book is about just read the title. It is exactly as it says. I have recommended this book to everyone I talk to. I am beyond grateful that a friend of mine recommended this to me. I love to cook, bake and be in the kitchen on a 24/7 basis. She was able to articulate the feelings that I get when I'm in my kitchen. She accurately expressed the importance of cooking and why life should be done around the table. Also, this audible comes with the pdf cookbook, so don't worry you will get every recipe she talks about. Enjoy!

LOVED IT!

I love her simple yet profound style of writing! I could personally relate to so many of her stories and struggles as if she was writing about me. The one huge difference being that i have been ashamed to cook for people becuase i dont feel good enough at it. So my husband cooks and I decorate and clean up. Shauna and this book have really inspired me to cook what I like, start simple as long as its done with Love, making our table a sacred space to gather- thats all that matters, and so im already inspired to host asap! Thank you!!

A Metaphor We Live By

What made the experience of listening to Bread & Wine the most enjoyable?

Shauna tells stories the way Jesus tells parables. She pushes me to think deeply and every time I come back to listen to her, I think she is right next to me just talking about the day.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bread & Wine?

Shauna ends books incredibly well. "This is what I want you to do: I want you to tell someone you love them, and dinner’s at six. I want you to throw open your front door and welcome the people you love into the inevitable mess with hugs and laughter." This is her charge to us and we must be ready to accept.

What does Shauna Niequist bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Shauna's encouraging truth-telling and vocal tone makes her an incredible storyteller.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Every table is a communion table."
