Publisher's summary

We all wish we had more control. When our relationships are strained, when our bodies refuse to cooperate, when the future is uncertain, control promises security and peace. If only I were in charge, we dream. And this illusion seems more attainable than ever. Technology, science, medicine, and the internet all promise us ever-increasing mastery over our world.

The problem is, control is a "devil's deal." The more we seek it, the more it betrays us. In place of predictability, it gives us anxiety. In place of certainty, it creates more complexity. And in place of unity, it divides. It's not just that we cannot control things; it's that we break them even more when we try.

Thankfully the answer to our craving is not simply to "let go and let God." When our kids aren't listening, when our loved ones are self-destructing, or when our health is declining, we don't have to scramble after control, nor do we have to throw up our hands. Instead, God has given us a better tool.

In this culturally insightful and eye-opening book, Sharon Hodde Miller helps us discover the real power God has given us in Christ, to exercise influence over ourselves and our lives.

Good book

I like how the author is self- deprecating and truthful about her shortcomings, and explains biblically what the cost of control is.

Outstanding book for Life

It is inspiring and a blessing. I am taking away several good biblical principles into my daily life and my relationship with other as well as with myself and God front his book. This is a great book for all ages but even more so for upper teens and young adults. Planning on getting the actual book as well.

Great reframing

This was a very refreshing, educational, and gave much-needed direction for my life. Although it was a little difficult to listen to the readers voice, which was a little too dry for me, the information in the book itself was much needed, and God ordained.

Excellent book!

Great insight and needed reminders that blame and shame are not of God. Love the idea that we only become who we were meant to be when we give all control to God.

Convicting, Helpful, Clear

I felt conviction and encouragement from the Spirit listening to each and every chapter of the The Cost of Control, even the chapters I didn’t originally think would resonate with me. I had to listen twice—once for the whole idea and once to journal through each chapters’ idea. I’m grateful for this book!

Wow

I’m so thankful for this book. It had me look inwardly at my own desire to control more than I ever have, and in turn freed me from so many feelings I have struggled with for YEARS

Must Read for Enneagram 8 Christians

Maybe you, like me, are an Enneagram 8 and wish that you weren't. You see the havoc that control and the lack of it has on your life and you are tired of being frustrated, anxious and exhausted.

You know that God has a plan for you-- that He made you, and made you THIS way but you aren't sure what he expects you to do with it.

Enter this book.

You might already know all the areas that control creeps into your life, but if you don't you'll learn them quick in these chapters. What this author does better is demonstrate to you exactly how to lay those things down. How do you reject false control? How do you relieve anxiety?

100% recommend. I wish there was an option to add a sixth star! This is one I'll come back to again and again.
