About this listen

Challenge is inevitable. Defeat is not.
In the gripping finale of this cross-country post-apocalyptic odyssey, Ben and his crew traverse the desolate landscapes of a world ravaged by disaster, facing untold challenges, and forging unlikely alliances along the way.

As Ben and the others approach their final destination of Durango, Colorado, the group is tested yet again on their final push home, confronting the ghosts of their past and the harsh realities of a fractured world.

In a climactic showdown against the remnants of a once-civilized society turned ruthless, the bonds of family and the strength of the human spirit are pushed to their limits. The journey culminates in an unforgettable and heart-wrenching conclusion, where sacrifices are made, destinies are revealed, and the true meaning of survival is discovered.

In the shadows of a post-apocalyptic sunset, Ben, Sandy, and the kids grapple with the bittersweet reality of a new beginning forged from the ashes of the old world. The last leg of their journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring power of the human will in the face of an uncertain tomorrow.

The books could have been lumped together but still a great set for EMP likeness

I like the morality of the characters in conjunction with the reality of having to do hard things to survive. This isn't one of those hard core apocalypse stories that can be more depressing. It's more like the hero adventure stories. More fun than heartache.

good characters and energetic adventure

I really enjoyed the series, and particularly the fact that it doesn’t follow a pattern of widespread rebuilding but focuses on the “Dark Road”. A follow up would series of life in Durango would be great but I don’t think I’d listen if I have to purchase as many individual books. That beings me to this-
If I had to issue a critique it would be that there are a LOT of books to buy in the series, and I’d have liked it in three or for packs. Still well worth the listen!

Great story, and doesn’t progress like the genera normally does.

Action, adventure, all the fun stuff. I hope we find out what happens to Ben and crew in later books? Loved it! 😃🐾

Great series!

While the scenarios Ben & the others face in this book are pretty much the same as ones from previous books in this series, I still enjoyed the listen. I felt that the ending came too soon, though. I really would've liked to see them get set up and into a routine once they finally got home, and to see what the balance of power in their town looked at that point.

That said, I'm going to rant one last time about some of the most annoying aspects of this book. The last several books had far fewer of those predictable, stupidly obvious, rookie mistakes that Ben should never have made based on his Army Ranger training and experience as well as everything they've been through on this road trip. Based on this, I had high expectations for this last book of the series. However, within the first few chapters they'd already gotten themselves into two serious, life threatening, and rather redundant situations that ANY moron would know to avoid by now, especially these guys since they'd already been through similar situations. It was disappointing. At least you can listen to this and know what NOT to do if you're ever in a similar situation.

And don't even get me started on the leash thing, or lack of it.

Somewhat Predictable, Somewhat Redundant, Still Enjoyable

Great series

My only issue with this entire book series was that they never once ran into a police officer, I mean, they traveled so far and there wasn’t one town that was still lawful. They were only on the road for a few weeks and they ran into so many bad people and not enough good people.

A good family fighting to get home tale

it was a very good story full of action and it also gave a lot of character reflections which made them seem more human and not so cold. I do wish that there had been more of their lives once they made it home

Action packed
