For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he's earned hasn't healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings - until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls.
Sheridan O'Neil's quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Refusing to allow her heart to lead her to disaster, she chooses to focus solely on work. But after Sheridan is rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she's ever met, her vow to keep her heart penned wavers. As Sheridan uncovers James' belief that no woman is safe with him, however, she wonders whether such a wounded man could ever give in to love or if some hearts are simply too broken to be healed.

James feels he doesn't deserve love because twice now he has failed to keep safe a female who he loves so in his eyes it's better not to ever get involved.... to protect them. However, when he meets Sheridan, his brother Deacon's Assistant, that rule is severely tested.... there's sparks, plenty of chemistry, passionate sex but he just can't, daren't and won't break his rule. Sheridan is capable, strong willed and the lonely woman finds friends in the quaint friendly town, also with the Cavanaugh family as Deacon and Mac's wedding further sucks her in but the real fireworks goes off when the most handsome man she's ever seen comes riding into town.
A fairly easygoing contemporary romance told from dual POV's with some drama and danger when Sheridan made an enemy, the brother's quest for more clues lands them in trouble, great secondary characters, a close family bond and a nicely paced romance made this a very enjoyable listen. The narrator did a great job too.
Worth a credit? I really felt the heartache, anger and frustration these three loveable brothers feel about the unanswered questions surrounding their now long dead sister's murder. And the inner turmoil they each have when faced with taking that leap or losing out on love. So yes a creditworthy listen about following your heart despite what your head is telling you and a sad murder mystery that is slowly being pieced together.
LOVE THESE SEXY DROOL-WORTHY BROTHERS
