About this listen

Josie thought she was getting a promotion at her architectural firm, but instead her career implodes. She impulsively takes up her roommates’ offer to nanny for a little girl on a mega yacht in the South of France. Even though she can't stand boats, this seems like fate giving her an opportunity to lick her wounds in a bucket list paradise while she figures out how to get her life back.

But this little girl she’s arrived to look after has a daddy. A widowed, hot, billionaire of a daddy. And if there’s anything that Josie needs less than having to be stuck on a yacht, no matter how luxurious, it’s an inconvenient and highly combustible attraction to her new boss. A man who, for all his wealth, is grumpy, conceited, and utterly closed off.

Xavier Pascale is on an emotional island of his own making. It’s just him and his daughter and he likes it that way. He works hard, his shareholders are happy, and his best friends are his body guard and the people who work for him. What’s wrong with that? But then he meets Josephine Marin. Her arrival in his life is like a deep ocean tremor along a catastrophic emotional fault line. And now…well, now, he’s very, very aware of his isolation and his very human need. But he can’t be distracted. When he gets distracted terrible things happen.

He should send the nanny home. He really should. But what if he just takes what he wants, just this one time?

This is a standalone, contemporary romance. It includes luscious scenes of sparkling blue ocean; tantalizing, seductive food; as well as a smoking hot, dirty-talking Frenchman. If traveling scares you, or sexy times scare you, then this book is not for you. But if you’re looking for a decadent armchair vacation after being stuck in one place for over a year - a story that will make you laugh, swoon, fan yourself, and cry - then this one is for you!

Good writing

This was a lovely romance and I love books with accents, although the male narrator could’ve sounded younger and more masculine but, it was well written. The steam doesn’t happen for a while and it’s not raunchy like so many are these days. It’s not clean and wholesome just not erotic either.

Kept me intrigued,

The story had a lot of potential. Somewhat predictable but I enjoy romantic escapes into billionaire tales. I got a little tired of the characters' ongoing angst and distrust, but overall enjoyed the book.

Broken French is une belle histoire!

In 2021, Broken French was my favorite contemporary romance when I READ it. Then here in 2022, this brilliant gem of an audiobook arrives and it reminds me just how much this luscious story means to me. The depth of emotion: grief, doubt, joy, passion, and love! The breadth of the descriptions: as vivid as the blues of the Mediterranean! It was all so expressively and sublimely narrated by Elisabeth Lagelee and Jean Brassard. Immediately upon finishing this book that had me oohing, ahhing, laughing, and crying I once again added it to my favorites! Merci and très bien fait!

A great love story

As someone who loves French culture, this love story was delicious! It did take a while to ramp up but I loved the story from start to finish.

I thought the performance was okay. I do wish they would have made the male lead sound younger but that is a small critique that I could find in such a wonderful story! The character development was well done.

The twist and turns

I loved the drama and everyday language used. I also love descriptions and analytics the characters come up with. IA good love story is always appreciated.
