The Twist Got Me

I could not stop listening to this book. I normally read Catherine’s books pretty quickly but this was fast even for me 😆

Expect 👉🏼 Small Town Romantic Suspense, Hockey Hero, Single Mom, Baker Heroine, Forced Proximity, He Spoils Her, Woman on the Run, Found Family, Touch Her and D1e

Sutton is slaying the mom thing. Sure, there isn’t a ton of money and her son wants to play a dangerous sport and her landlord keeps raising her rent, and her son’s hero turns out to be the super attractive brother of her friends…

Okay, but for real, did Catherine really add in hockey? Because just when I thought I couldn’t love her books more… she went and added in my kryptonite.

Cope is so gone for Sutton. And he’s gone for Luca too. Like he was just waiting for the sunshine they are 🥹 to brighten up his life.

I love Sutton. Strong, badass and the best mom.

These two were it for each other and I’m just so in love with them and their story. And I did NOT see that twist coming 😅

Connor Crais and Erin Mallon were fantastic in my ears 🎧

Annoying female voice

The finale narrator is very annoying and is taking away from the story. I liked the story and characters so I continued with the listen but will not in the future if the same female narrator is on.

Love it like bees love honey 🐝

GAH! Catherine Cowles is truly the queen of cozy romantic suspense. The page turning drama, the broken but healing characters, the tender connections, the amazing found family and small town vibes, the emotively rich and touching love story. I can’t get enough of this series, and I simply adored Cope and Sutton’s charming, gentle, and so very swoony love story. I loved this story like bees love honey!

I just adore the beautiful healing love story between Cope and Sutton. I’m a sucker for single moms on the run type dynamics, and Cope is so deliciously protective, patient, loving…and emotionally available. I adored watching them both work through their painful pasts together, finding peace and solace in one another, and Sutton finding the emotional safety she deserves. I love when characters not only grow, but grow together, and that’s their journey. Their sweet, tender, and easy love story is so beautifully juxtaposed to the trauma of their pasts…and the danger threatening them in the present. It truly makes for the most addictive and page turning experience.

And the suspense was on point! I’ve been duped on the who-dun-it part of this series multiple times, and I just live for the mystery and suspense of figuring out our baddie. This one definitely caught me off guard- which made for an explosive finale!

And as always the audio was TOP NOTCH. Connor Crais is my favorite male narrator and he brought so many dynamics to Cope- both grit and vulnerability. And Erin Mallon always delivers so much heart and emotional intensity. The performances swept me away!

What to expect:
🐝Small Town
🐝Single Mom
🐝Hockey Star Hero x Baker Heroine
🐝Unexpected Roommates
🐝Heroine in danger/heroine on the run
🐝He coaches her kid/cute bond
🐝Found family
🐝Romantic Suspense

Excellent all the way around!

Some readers have habits, voices or speech impediments that make them difficult to listen to. The readers were both excellent and the story well written. Catherine Cowles is becoming a new favorite. I’m anxious for the next 3 books in this series!

I LOVED This Book . . . “More Than Bees 🐝 Love Honey 🍯”!!! 😉😍😍

Okay, NOW I am a fan of Catherine Cowles!! As I said in my last review of a book of hers, I wasn’t quite sure with her first book that I read/listened to, but now I AM A FAN!! I finished this book in 3 days!! I am NOT kidding!! (Although the fact that I’m currently on Thanksgiving Break from work right now helped A LOT, too!! 😅) I’m SO gonna go through her “back catalogue” of her books now!! I absolutely LOVED Luca (Sutton’s (the FMC) son)!! God, he was SO sweet!! LOVE that kid . . . “more than bees 🐝 love honey 🍯”! 😉 He has become my favorite character, FOR SURE (along with Grandma Lolli, of course; she is HILARIOUS!! If you know, you know! 😉 I SO want her as a grandma!!)!! Also, Sutton!! Ahh!! Catherine Cowles does single-moms WELL, I’ll say that! That woman was STRONG!! 💪🏻😍 And Cope (the MMC)!! 😍🥵🔥 My God!! I WANT my own hockey 🏒 player now!! 😅 The only thing that I didn’t like as much is the “gym spicy scene” (if you know, you know 🥵) . . . Now, don’t get me wrong; that scene WAS HOT 🥵, BUT the thing I didn’t quite like is that Cope didn’t ask for consent before tying her up (he asked for consent before the 1st time they have s*x, but NOT before tying her up the first time) . . . That just didn’t sit right with me . . . Asking for consent before doing something “new” with your partner should ALWAYS be the thing to do, even IF she (or he) seems “into it” . . . Plus, it’s s*xy as h*ll to me!! 😉 I liked the way the “tying up s*xy scene” was done with Thea & Shep (Book 2 of this series) A LOT better!! Oh, and also, I felt a little uncomfortable by how mad Cope seemed in the hospital scene . . . Like, “I know you’re upset that Sutton got hurt (don’t worry, she’s okay & everything), but, man, it’s NOT healthy AT ALL to be THAT mad at the DOCTOR trying to HELP HER” & then, his anger issues never seemed resolved (or corrected), either . . . Anyway, those 2 are my only complaints of this book: Cope should have for consent before tying Sutton up & Cope should NOT have been that mad/upset at the doctor, or he should have gotten help for his anger issues by the end of the story . . . For now, though, I’ll just go back through her older books while I wait (somewhat impatiently) for Arden & Linc’s story (the next book in this series) to come out next year!! 😉👍🏻😅

Hockey Romance

Catherine Cowles does it again! Sutton is a single mom dealing with the trauma from her addict of a husband. Cope is the protective hockey player who falls for her and her son. If you're into the found family trope, you’ll enjoy this story.

Emotional, romantic and action packed

Oh my heart, Cope, Sutton and Luca have stolen it. “Broken Harbor” is an emotional, romantic and action packed small town hockey romance that was the perfect addition to the “Sparrow Falls” series.

Ever since leaving her drug addict husband, it’s just been Sutton and her son, Lucas. She’s a baker and owns “The Mix-Up” and has all the struggles as a business owner and a single mom. On a particularly rough day, she meets Lucas’ coach for hockey camp, Cope Colson. Cope is a professional hockey player and is back home for the summer and agrees to coach the youth summer camp. He also has close ties with the family that has taken Sutton in and they end up spending time together. Sutton is still burned from her marriage and Cope is convinced that he doesn’t deserve happiness. But when Sutton needs Cope, he’s there to help and as they spend time together, feelings start to develop. But problems with Cope’s professional team and problems from Sutton’s past start to come to light.

The way I devoured this book in one sitting because I could not stop listening. I was pulled in immediately with Sutton’s back story and I had loved her from the previous books. Sutton is a fierce mama bear who will do whatever she needs to so Lucas can be happy and achieve his dreams, like playing hockey. She’s a woman who just wants to be happy and feel safe, something that Sparrow Falls can offer her. And Cope… his backstory broke my heart. The pain he went through and the silent suffering just tugged at my heartstrings. He would do anything for his family and that shines throughout the book. That also quickly included Sutton and Lucas, I loved how without hesitation he was there when she needed him. Their romance was a slow and teasing burn but once we got there, it was sizzling hot (hello bar office scene). Once again, Catherine throws a plot twist in the book that I didn’t see coming. The epilogue was perfect and brought some happy tears to my eyes.

Connor Crais and Erin Mallon narrated this audio in dual narration and I loved listening to them. Connor’s narration was vulnerable and protective, just like Cope. And Erin had me enraptured as she brought the kind and caring Sutton to life. Having Connor and Erin narrate an audiobook is always a great listen and they were amazing as Cope and Sutton.

Performers me feel everything

I thought I hit my max in feels reading the ebook, I was so wrong. Listening to these performers bringing Cope and Sutton’s story to life was beyond what I expected. I didn’t know that their cadence could make me enjoy this story any more than I already did. I felt every-freaking-thing.
