About this listen

What happens when a nineteen-year-old boy leaves home and heads into the jungles to evangelize a murderous tribe of South American Indians?

For Bruce Olson, it meant capture, disease, terror, loneliness, and torture. But what he discovered through trial and error has revolutionized the world of missions.

Bruchko, which has sold more than 300,000 copies worldwide, has been called "more fantastic and harrowing than anything Hollywood could concoct." Having lived with the Motilone Indians since1961, Olson has won the friendship of four presidents of Colombia and made appearances before the United Nations because of his efforts. Bruchko includes the story of Olson's1988 kidnapping by communist guerrillas and the nine months of captivity that followed. This revised version of his story is an amazing reminder that simple faith in Christ can make anything possible.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES, I already have recommended this book. This is a very powerful and inspirational book.

What other book might you compare Bruchko to and why?

i DARED TO CALL HIM FATHER. Which I also enjoyed. These are both autobiographies in which both people dared to be submitted to God, and love the people group they were in.

Which character – as performed by Gary Dikeos – was your favorite?

Bobby and also Brucho

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

What an incredible story. Once it got started it was hard to take breaks in listening. The story keeps you pulled in wanting to know what will happen next. The reader is OK. His voice is sort of flat but once the story picks up you don't even notice it anymore, besides he does a fabulous job pronouncing the difficult words and names. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book! Must read

This book had me biting my nails the whole time. As I think about it, it portrays fully what loving your neighbor really means. Bruce gave everything for that love. I found myself disagreeing with some of the things he did or where done to him. Yet, I am reminded that we all are still human and flawed. Would have loved to hear about his parents, if they became believers and if Bruce ever married. Highly recommend for mature 8th graders and up. I read it before giving it to my 8th grader so that we can discuss it.

What a catalyst of faith

Oh, to see Jesus do such things in our own culture. He has chosen the foolish things to confound the wise. 1 Corinthians 1:27

What a special witness of God’s work to prepare a people for his kingdom on earth and for heaven.

I almost returned this book because I didn't like the reader, but I'm very glad that I didn't. ita excellent and the reader gets a bit better, or at least I got used to him, as the book goes on, so stick through it and be amazed as I was at the work done through Christ.

excellent story if you can get past the narrator

It has been difficult to put into words how profoundly this book affected me.This story amazed and captivated me completely. I especially like his way of telling people about Jesus's love. I have been a little disturbed that missionaries always needed to make these people like us. Why couldn't they teach about Jesus while allowing these people to keep their own wonderful culture. Bruchko shows this can be done. I will recommend this book to everyone and look forward to reading it again. Thankyou.

I love this book

Bruchko is another example of how God works in incredible ways in the most difficult situations.

Perhaps the best way to read this book is in written form, because the reader is very good at pronouncing the foreign words, however his tone is always the same and often times I have been tempted to stop listening,
On the other hand, the fact that I don't have time to read the print edition, and the value of the content, helped me getting to the end of the book in audible format.

Must read for any Christian
