This was a great story, and some episodes in it particularly edifying and moving. Dialog isn't always strong, but other than that it is very well written. I do wish I'd read the print book, because I think the reader wasn't the best, especially when it came to the male chatacters' voices...I think the dialog would have come across better without the reader.

The reader of this book drove me nuts. It took me a long time to get through this book as a result. Her reading was slow and the voices used were not helpful. I would love to have this book read by someone else

I really appreciated the time Carol took to lay out her quandaries and problems with Christianity. I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter too, and getting a glimpse into the world of a Master in English!

Joy and goodness, being fruits of the Spirit, are what we are left feeling when we hear someone tell of their conversion story. We may not even know the person telling the story, and yet we feel moved to tears because we know the same struggles and triumph accompany our own conversion story.

I couldn’t put this book down, so I listened to audiobook when I couldn’t sit and read my physical book. Even though it’s non-fiction, I felt like I was reading a really good story. The author wove together the story of her first year at Oxford and the journey she went on to come to faith in Christ, along with her friendships and relationship relationships with fellow students and family members. And of course, the love story with her eventual husband. So good!

Carolyn Weber has given a great gift to the 21st century in the category of spiritual memoir. Surprised by Oxford will give the listener many surprises but mostly an abiding sense in the relentless, loving pursuit of divine providence.
