Publisher's summary

Dylan Prescott has all the answers, even when she doesn’t know the questions. She’s in her element cruising the singles scene and crushing cases as a newly minted NYPD detective. Equal parts free spirit and thrill seeker, catching bad guys and charming good girls are what she was born to do.

Briana Logan doesn’t play. A successful assistant United States attorney with several convictions on her résumé, she’s a commanding presence in the courtroom. In any room, to be honest. Smart and sexy, she’s got her work-life balance down. It’s simple: career first, everything else second. That is, until Dylan Prescott is assigned to the team investigating a sophisticated narcotics ring.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but the complicated NYC criminal justice system doesn’t leave room for real feelings. Keeping their emotions in check isn’t easy. Where the heart is concerned, no one is bulletproof.

Wonderful combination

One of the best stories to come to audio. Paige McKinney does an excellent job. She’s one of those narrators you can either enjoy or you can’t honesty speaking. I’ve never had a complaint. This audio or book version are can’t misses for sure.

Loved it. Great characters as well. It had all the elements. Love, suspense, break-up, and drama.

Good points and not as good points

I didn’t LOVE this book. In part, I think it was Paige McKinney as narrator. She is hard for me to listen to for too long. She can be sort of “sing-songy” for my taste, and over-the-top, almost exasperated expressions of emotion. IDK.
Anyway, the story itself was pretty good. It started out a little uninteresting to me, but it did slowly gain ground. Overall it was ok and I don’t regret spending a credit on it. I typically like Maggie Cummings and will continue to look forward to her books.

Kinda annoyed by the standard romance cliche

The main characters have deep and emotionally involved conversations about their relationship and feelings just to break up and then get back together. Overall a good book and would recommend to friends

Epic!

Such well-rounded characters. Totally understandable highs and lows of love and life. Not too mentioned, I’m from Brooklyn! Well written and beautifully narrated.

Narrator ruins EVERYTHING

I'm a big fan of Maggie Cummings. She consistently writes really excellent romances. However, every time I see Paige McKinney as a narrator it almost always dissuades me from getting the book. Not trying to be mean but she should not narrate romance. Her voice and acting do not fit this genre. Firstly I have to speed up 1.3 to even be able to listen to her. Why does she drag out words the way way she does? When a character is written to be confident, sure of themselves, etc., she just makes her voice deeper but there's an explicit question in everyone of the character's statements. They always sound unsure of themselves and slightly befuddled. Her other main character always sound like upbeat kindergarten teachers on the brink of breaking out into song. So most of the time you have a deep voiced buffoon falling in love with Mothergoose. Her performance is devoid of nuance, she never catches the wit, the playfulness or sexiness. It. is. so. ANNOYING!! Please stop using her for this genre. Not trying to be mean here but she's not right for it.

if not for the narrator.....

I love Maggie Cummings. She is a great author. Love her books. But I will never listen to another book that is narrated by Paige McKinney ever again!
If you like listening to someone who sounds like a stuck up, prudish English teacher....then Paige McKinney is for you.
I could not get through the entire book with this narrator. It was just awful!!
