About this listen

Librarian Carrie Singleton is building a haven, but one of her neighbors is misbehavin'. Can resident spirit Evelyn help Carrie catch the culprit who made her a ghost?

In winter, the Haunted Library is a refuge for homeless townspeople. When a group purchases a vacant house to establish a daytime haven for the homeless, Carrie offers the library as a meeting place for the Haven House committee, but quickly learns that it may be used for illegal activities.

As the new Sunshine Delegate, Carrie heads to the hospital to visit her cantankerous colleague, Dorothy, who had fallen outside the local supermarket. She tells Carrie that her husband tried to kill her - and that he murdered her Aunt Evelyn, the library's resident ghost, six years earlier.

And then Dorothy is murdered - run off the road as soon as she returns to work. Evelyn implores Carrie to find her niece's killer, but that's no easy task: Dorothy had made a hobby of blackmailing her neighbors and colleagues. Carrie, Evelyn, and Smoky Joe the cat are on the case, but are the library cards stacked against them?

Buried in the Stacks is the third book in The Haunted Library Mysteries series.
This is a standalone book. I have read them all but think you won’t be left in the dark by starting with this one.
The narrator greatly enhanced this story. When I read it a few years ago, I rated it a 3.5 but the audio has me increasing my rating.
It was a quick read and the spirit of Evelyn helps the story along. I did find inconsistencies within the story and did have to suspend disbelief beyond the spirit. Carrie's character is now thinking before placing herself in harms way. She is actively avoiding rushing into situations with concern for her welfare. She realizes there are a lot of people that care about her.

I love this series. It’s easy to listen to as an audiobook. It has great characters. I already have the next one purchased and ready to start tomorrow.

Totally fun read.

I wish the cat and ghost had bigger roles. The parts about the homeless people in the library sounded too much like someone without social services experience. I had read the first book in this series and it was better written. Don't think I will read another.

I'm usually not one for ghost stories, but this one is not heavy on the scary stuff, and part of a good library series. Carrie Singleton and her cat, Smoky Joe are on the good side of the law and all for helping the homeless people who stop in at the library to keep warm. Understandably, many of the parents are weary of their children coming into contact with the homeless during story hour, so its a problem. So when a solution seems to present itself, Carrie is all for it . . . until the project also turns into a way to hide illegal gambling. The library ghost, Evelyn is helping Carrie try to find who killed her niece, Dorothy, but Carrie is finding that even a ghost 👻can keep some secrets. This is a clean cozy, very easy listening, that can be listened to while going about your chores, which I appreciate . . . and a good break from my heavier mysteries.

Fun, Light Listen

Chapter 24 is a mess....Evelyns character seems whiny and there’s no clear path through the storyline. I lived the other two so this was very disappointing.

Glitchy

There is not much that irritates me more than someone that is narrating a book and mispronounces words. This is your JOB. It is your responsibility to be sure you know how to pronounce every word you are reading. All throughout the 3 books I’ve read so far, there have been mispronounced words. I hit the end of my patience with it today when she mispronounced “petit fours”. The second “t” is silent. Its French. Learn how to pronounce the words you’re reading!
Now, this is NOT the fault of the author and I love this series. The stories are fun, light and food mysteries. I’m really enjoying the series.
I would’ve given 5 across the board if it weren’t for the mispronunciations.

Love the series
