Book One of the Guardian Saga

When people are threatened, a guardian will hear their call. Empowered by its magic, he will fight to defend them.

Drayven is the last of the guardians, an ancient order of human warriors who wield the magic of dragons, trained by a small group of dissenting dragons who opposed the darker yearnings of their kin. For a time, left in peace by the feudal dragon lords ruling the world of Soria, the dissenters and the human defenders they created thrived. Now they both are being hunted as a dark force rises in the south. When Drayven's village is attacked by a new race of draconic slaves, he is forced on a quest to face a new evil.

An old-fashioned adventure the likes of Hercules: the Legendary Journeys and featuring a deep and meaningful human-dragon friendship straight out of Dragonheart, Call of the Guardian is the story of an unlikely bond between a pair of orphans, who struggle to find a hopeful future in each other. Follow Drayven, his dragon mentor, and their allies as they seek to snuff out the source of a vile new race of dragon-like humanoids and the dark magic that created them.

What is an Of Metal and Magic CORE story? CORE stories are all set in the high fantasy world of Soria. These novels, novellas, and short stories, by every-growing group of authors, overlap and interact to build one unified canon. Creating stories within this sort of large-scale shared universe is what OMAM does best. Within the whole of the OMAM CORE series, multi-volume novels, such as Call of the Guardian, are separated into sagas. You can expect to see more from JM Williams in the future.

Wonderfully done!

Well written. Loved the resonant voice effects. I found the characters relatable and could actually see this band as a tabletop role playing party.

Great tour through a fascinating world!

Call of the Guardian was well written with lifelike characters and well thought out plot. It was an adventure that I enjoyed. Any fantasy fan will recognize the archetypes of the genre, but with new twists and compelling story lines. Loved it!
