Publisher's summary

Wake a dungeon.

Form a guild.

Fight to restore the world.

Kai was the least likely young man to ascend. Raised on his uncle’s potato farm, he began his career as an adventurer with empty pockets and little skill. But a foolish attempt to prove his bravery leads Kai to unlock hidden power within himself and acquire a most unlikely ally.

Rhona is a battle-scarred soldier who’s as likely to toss a quip as she is to throw a punch. After setting aside a promising career in the army to pursue the Path of the Bleeding Tiger, she sets out to stop a war and seek atonement for a bloody past.

When Bancroft the Earth Core awakens, he can’t wait to clean up his dungeon and begin building things anew. A recovered item from his past reminds him that more is at stake, however, putting an end to such pleasantries.

Join The Guild Core, a small band of friends determined to restore the world to an age of dragons, heroes, and honor.

The Guild Core is a series by TJ Reynolds, fantasy LitRPG author of Eternal Online books one to three. The Guild Core was inspired by the Divine Dungeon series, the Wheel of Time, and classic films like The Labyrinth and The Neverending Story.

This story takes place in an epic fantasy world governed by gaming mechanics. It contains light to moderate LitRPG, gamelit, cultivation, and dungeon core elements. Features realistic violence, three MC POVs, and more than a few quaint jokes. Language and adult content is appropriate for teen listeners.

Ehhh…

Story has classic Dungeon Setup where MC has a companion, but the companion is super bland. All that is said is praising and praising the MC for minuscule stuff. Couldn’t finish book1. Cool premise, but writing style just wasn’t my cup of tea

At a loss

I don't know if it was the writing or the narrator or both. The main character would have been better if described as a 15 or 16 year old. He was nothing like a 21 yr old in the 2 books I've listened to so far. I bought the package. He was whiney, and very child like. Also the heroin's accent when I listened to it sounded like JFK for some reason. I mean the whole concept is awesome but with the man child main character and the whiney narration I am not impressed.

really fun, picky other listeners...

I did catch it a bit that the author was sort of ending it at the end, but still a really fun listen. it was a little fast and easy fur he characters which a lot of litrpg tends to be, but plenty of fun.

It's just Meh

I held out until the very end. I feel like the main character has every advantage handed to him but yet needs to be saved every time there's danger.
My favorite parts were the dungeon cores. If the series was centered around Bancroft building his dungeon and fighting off waves of enemies or discovering ancient evils from far below that would be amazing.
I wanted more danger, more character progression, more stakes. It felt cheap and rushed.

Not bad. not great either

Writing this as I have 4 hours left to listen to the first omnibus. This series has promise, but gets bogged with tropes, stereotypes, and the mechanics of 🤮 cultivation. It checks out all the things for an epic fantasy adventure, but didn't do anything to stand out from the crowd. A LOT of effort has been put into this story, but keeps falling short of actually getting me to care about the characters or plot. But for a few moments, they could have been copy and pasted from the TvTropes website right into the outline for the story and charcter summaries.

The narrator did a great job with voices and putting emotion into the narration.

Tips for the author; Let the characters grow in the world and deal with consequences instead of having them run to a "shelter" that they have to run from again when the next powerful gobshite with way too loyal followers comes to enslave, plunder, and kill them for 'reasons'.

-Also move away from cultivation, and find other reasons for conflict in the story, it's just way overdone. And most such stories these days are just power fantasy for the author justified with a lot of mysticism technobabble.

2 great books, one eh

While book 2 has a bit of plot armor to make things happen in the nick or time or great powers to save blah blah, still good.

Book 3 however feels rushed, like there was so much more story and world to explore. Plus the MC becomes a bit of a ass. He acts more like the female MC father, demanding those hes in charge in toughen up and learn to kill. Not accepting of letting them be how they are or want to be but how he thinks they should be. Honestly can't stand him in book 3, its basically a 180 from how he is in the first 2.

I liked that the leadership aspect didn't delve directly into political building.

Nice story about a potato farmer who meets a girl and they go on an adventure. And there is a fifteen word minimum so I'll fill the rest with descriptions of the world instead of stats like the rest of LITRPG books.

Excellent Series!

I super LOVE this series! It's one of my favorites of all time. It's very well-written, action-packed, witty, and heartwarming. I adore all the characters, well, except for Hastings (I still loathe him!). Bancroft's my favorite!

This series was my introduction to Steve Campbell! He did a fantastic job with the narration specifically with Bancroft! Bravo!
