R. A. Salvatore
About this listen
From R. A. Salvatore, the legendary creator of Drizzt Do'Urden, comes the start of a brand new epic journey.
When Aoleyn loses her parents, she is left to fend for herself among a tribe of vicious barbarians. Bound by rigid traditions, she dreams of escaping to the world beyond her mountain home.
The only hope for achieving the kind of freedom she searches for is to learn how to wield the mysterious power used by the tribe's coven known as the Song of Usgar. Thankfully, Aoleyn may be the strongest witch to have ever lived, but magic comes at price. Not only has her abilities caught the eye of the brutish warlord that leads the tribe, but the demon of the mountain hunts all who wield the Coven's power, and Aoleyn's talent has made her a beacon in the night.

Story
Powerful plant mage and heir-apparent to the Duchy of Eleusion, Penny Barclay lives each day under two strict rules: Don't shame the family's magical heritage, and don't allow any man to turn her head. While she knows her mother's restrictive rules come from a place of love, Penny doesn't always agree on how they should be followed—particularly with a rebellion threatening their way of life. The rebels' goal? For all magic wielders to be enslaved under those who have not received such a gift from the Goddess.

The audiobook does not disappoint; it is easy on the ears and the narrator is talented at giving characters unique voices. However, while the heavy accents in the book's dialogues are well-performed, REALLY make sure you are listening on moderate- to high-quality headphones or sound devices. I had a cheap pair of drugstore ear buds and I originally thought I wouldn't be able to plug through the book!
I guarantee you, though--it is worth the read and I wait for the next book with anticipation.
