General Thoughts: I thought this was a cute cozy mystery. I loved how Lin played with the “don’t jump to conclusions” scenario that we often find ourselves in. (This time it was based on a character who had a felony history.)

Star Rating: 37.⅝ = 4.68
Here’s Why

Characters: 3.5/5 - I enjoyed our characters, I just wanted a bit more from them. It felt like we were just scratching the surface - any maybe that’s because this was only book 1 but I needed a bit more enticement.

Atmosphere/Setting: 5/5 - I loved the setting of Cape Bay (although on audiobook, I thought the narrator said Cape May - so I had a very distinct image in my head.)

Writing Style: 4/5 - I enjoyed Lin’s writing style, I just wanted to go more in depth.

Plot: 5/5 - Simple yet effective plot.

Intrigue: 5/5 - I had more intrigue than I thought I would - on a lot of different layers.

Logic: 5/5 - It all made logical sense to me; I was just along for the ride.

Enjoyment: 5/5 - I enjoyed this read a lot, just wanted more - as I’ve stated before.

Audiobook Narrator: 5/5 Marguerite Gavin did a great job narrating this book. Her pace was even and easy to follow. Her intonations were great and I was able to distinguish the differences in the characters she read.

I thought this was a cute cozy mystery.

Everything goes perfectly for Fran. A guy who pays for all date meals out, a dog who finds her, Only one ridiculous amateur detective mistake.
Not very interesting.

Good cozy mystery but nothing outstanding about it that makes it memorable for me. It was well written and the characters were likable enough.

Good Cozy

I thought this was a great and relaxing book. A nice break from all the self help and sales books I usually listen to. I look forward to listening to another by Harper Lin.

Fun and easy listen

Story is ok, a little repetitive in sections. Character development is strong with some but shallow on others. Ending was a surprise.

Narration is acceptable.
