About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Tyler, writing as S. E. Jakes....

Everyone knows that Prophet - former Navy SEAL, former CIA spook, full-time pain in the ass - works alone. But his boss at Extreme Escapes, Ltd. has just assigned Proph a new partner and a case haunted by ghosts from Proph's past. Suddenly he has to confront both head-on.

Tom Boudreaux - failed FBI agent, failed sheriff, full-time believer in bad luck - is wondering why the head of a private contracting firm has hunted him down to offer him a job. Still, he's determined to succeed this time, despite being partnered with Prophet, EE's most successful, lethal, and annoying operative, on a case that resurrects his own painful past.

Together Prophet and Tom must find a way to take down killers in the dangerous world of underground cage matches while fighting their own dangerous attraction. When they find themselves caught in the crossfire, these two loners must trust each other and work together to escape their ghosts...or pay the price.

Not the best narrator but not the worst

What did you love best about Catch a Ghost?

Love Tom and Prophet even when I want to smack them especially Prophet.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Catch a Ghost?

That Prophet comes off so alpha male yet can be submissive to Tom especially during post migraine sex. Also, Toms voodoo sense.

What aspect of Adam North’s performance would you have changed?

His Tom accent. It sometimes made Tom sound slow and stupid. He needed to listen to guys with a Cajun accent and then mellow it somewhat, since Tom hasn't always lived in the bayou. He does a great job with Prophet though. Cillian voice is ok. Also instead of saying Helo with a long e for helicopter he kept saying it with a short e and sounded like "hel o".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope just get annoyed with Prophet sometimes.

Any additional comments?

Adam does a great job with Prophet but other accents not so much. His narration is good not fast and he puts emotion in where it's needed but doesn't get overly dramatic.

Worth reading

I liked the main characters but I'm a sucker for military or law enforcement badass bruding types. I felt like there was a bit of laziness in the writing. They're in a jam and then POOF, they're safe. The cadence of the story was off for me and also more undone at the end then done. I guess that's what makes you get the next book, which I will. Like I said, I like these guys. The narrator did a very good job. Could definitely tell the difference between the characters and really felt the emotions behind the words. I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else though. The New Orleans drawl could have been better. Overall, very good.

Alpha Hot

Would you listen to Catch a Ghost again? Why?

Probably. It's definitely good enough.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Catch a Ghost?

the ending

Which character – as performed by Adam North – was your favorite?

loved both of the leads

If you could rename Catch a Ghost, what would you call it?

I think that's a pretty clever name so I can't think of a better one at this time.

Any additional comments?

I love alpha men especially when they are bad*** and have the hots for each other. Two highly trained men working together in and out of the bedroom may just be my favorite type of read. I’ll definitely be continuing the series.

Great Series

Okay I was lucky enough to purchase this series when all four and a half books were available, because let's face it I'm not a person who likes to wait for anything so when you're hooked on a series and have to wait for a book to come out it kind of sucks. That being said I was hesitant to purchase this series at first because of the reviews being so mixed but I'm so glad I did, the character development on the two main characters and all the side characters are so wonderfully developed that I felt like I knew them. Prophet and Toms journey towards a partnership/ relationship was a gradual progression marred by the past, present and future of these beautiful tortured souls.
I have close to 1,500 books in my library and about 60% of them are of the m/m genre. I used to choose these books by author first, then the storyline and lastly narrator. but that changes quickly when you listen to a really great book with a really bad narrator. so now my book choices are narrator first, storyline and lastly author. And let me tell you something Adam (Cooper?) North knocked this narration out of the park. His cadence his timing, even his accents literally brought all the characters to life especially the MC's. He is the reason why books 2, 3, 3.5 were purchased and is also a go to read for me. I have 3 favorite series that I re-listen to every now and then and Hell or High Water is one, Marshalls by M. Calmes, and Cut and Run by A. Roux. These are must reads/listens. If you enjoy greats story's with excellent narration.
Oh, just one more thing I'm not sure whose decision it was to change narrators in the fourth book to this series ( WTF) but in my opinion it did not work.... at all, narrator made Prophet sound like a teenage boy, I ended up reading it.

OMG I love this series!

Prophet and Tom are two men thrown together as mercenaries, forced to be partners when neither wants one.

Prophet is slowly going blind and won’t tell anyone about it. Tommy is “cursed” with the bad luck of killing his partners off but won’t tell anyone about it.

They both have a TON of chemistry and no ability to share their feelings.

In addition, Prophet and Tom are working on a case where Prophet knows the family and has a history with the victim.

People are trying to kill them – but that’s nothing new to either man.

In the end, they’ll have to let the other guy in or risk losing him and maybe their lives.

**

This is an absolutely amazing series written by SE Jakes. She’s a gifted character creator and has a strong knowledge of the military and the associated government agencies. She eventually brings in characters from her other series, Men of Honor.

In this series we find Tommy and Prophet coming together yet pushing each other away time and again and a mystery involving John, Prophet’s former friend/partner/lover.

Prophet’s decreasing eyesight and perpetual PTSD make him a complex and unique character whose inner workings are never exactly sane. Tommy’s voodoo Cajun mysticism make him a wonderful partner for Prophet and he adds a slight sense of the paranormal to these stories.

I love the chemistry with these guys – it’s scorching hot. My favorite aspect of the series. I get pretty confused by the mystery and sometimes lost in the action but I can always find my way in the end and I’m pretty invested in these guys and their romance.

The secondary characters get some play as well and they are very well developed and fun. Cillian and Mal, Blue and Mick each have their own books.

I highly recommend this book to fans of adventure and mayhem with a touch of rough and dirty sex thrown in.

Audio

We’ve been waiting a LONG TIME for these to come to audiobook format and I gotta tell you I was nervous since I wasn’t familiar with the narrator. Well… he did an AWESOME job! There are some annoying phrases and things he does now and then (his pronunciation of was for example…) but for the most part he does a wonderful Cajun for Tommy and a snarky and wonderful Cillian and Proph, Blue and Mick are all done well.

I highly recommend both the series and the audiobook and am looking forward to more!

A good start

Going into this book (and I'm guessing series) you might have one of two mind sets. Thinking you are in for an insane ride, without a lot of credibility to it. Or hoping for a procedural wanting the events to be believable or close to what would happen in reality. If you are looking for the second you are bound for disappointment there are very few things in this book that are believable. However, if you are looking to be entertained and for an insane ride with a lot of fights and action (both the fighting and sexual kind) this is definitely a book to try. It also seems like this might be a book you either love or hate. I'm firmly in the middle camp for now. I'm intrigued, entertained and look forward to see what the next book brings. Adam North was engaging to listen to, not flawless but still worth the while.

The jury is still out on this one

Although this is very popular series and I enjoyed the audio book much more than the e-book, I'm still not sure I'm going to continue the series. I just didn't connect with either MC or them as a couple, which they are and are not. This may be one of those series where it takes a couple of books to get into the story. As it stands now, I like Tommy and admire him putting up with Prophet's crap, but at some point I was like "man, walk away." I know Prophet is all "tortured soul" but sometimes he is just an a**hole. Also I found the case they were working on kind of convoluted and I was saying "huh?" a lot. Again, this may be because the series has to read as a whole. The narrator does a great job but I wish he had done a Cajun accent for Tom, it would have added a great deal to his character.

Fantastic!!

The story kept me engaged, but I couldn't help comparing the characters and storyline to Cut & Run. The biggest difference between the two being that Cut & Run is much better in terms of writing and characterization.

Hot sex between the two angst ridden MCs was a major plus in this book, however. The tension between the two men was nicely set up.

The narration really added to this story—I liked it much better listening to it than I did reading it the first time around. I am now totally committed to listening to the series and am anxious to see what further secrets are discovered!!

Lovin It

I've read this series twice so I was excited when I saw it was becoming an audio book. I always hope the narrator is able to make the voices sounds distinct and true to the authors description. This narrator nails it. I love Tommy's cajun accent and how he has captured Prophets personality through dialogue. The plot is bland, but the characters make up for it just because they are so interesting.
