Publisher's summary

A botched drug raid took her father's life when she was seven. On her 13th birthday she witnessed her mother's murder. Alone in the world, Jennifer Blade sets out to even the score. At 33, enmeshed in a game that knows no rules, she is about to fulfill her quest when everything unravels. Fleeing for her life, she heads to the mountains of upstate New York, where she unexpectedly finds new reason to live. Steve Sanders, a 38-year-old psychologist with a predictable life, is on a fishing trip in the mountains.

Little does he know that all vacations are not created equal. Within 24 hours, they catch a few trout, have a passionate affair, shoot and kill a man, are involved in two gun battles, receive wounds, and end up in Miami, Florida. All this, and as Steve says, they still have six days of vacation left. Their relationship touches long-buried feelings in Jennifer, and shatters the mundane existence suffocating Steve.

Catch and Release, a romance/suspense novel, is the story of two lives from vastly different backgrounds, drawn together by fate and a common love of the great outdoors. The crossing of Jennifer's and Steve's paths releases an explosion of love, passion, adventure, and ultimately a reason for a shared journey.

What a wild ride

What did you love best about Catch and Release?

So many things but above all was the humor that Steve brought to a wild and twisting plot. The other main character is Jennifer and you never know what she will get Steve into but his ability to add his dry humor is fantastic. This was a mystery/thriller/romance and beautifully captured each genre. The romance was soft and really a subplot to the twist and turns of the main plot.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Catch and Release?

Steve’s first meeting with “Bingo” the tough Italian mob figure who operates in Miami. Steve is impersonating a FBI agent and Bingo pulls a gun on him. Steve’s reaction and Jennifer’s ability to handle the situation were priceless.

The hospital scene with Steve was great, but will give too much away if I describe it.

Have you listened to any of Craig Jessen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first Craig Jessen book and I enjoyed his approach to the many different characters in the story. He captured the many sides of Steve perfectly and gave me the right “mind pictures” to carry me thorough the story. Good Job. Jennifer is a tough woman who has been through a lot of life. Sometimes I thought she came across a little soft, but it wasn’t a distraction. “Bingo Bob” was really fun and I could picture him with every line.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A fishing trip never to be forgotten.

All spring breaks are not the same

Any additional comments?

I looked at the reviews for the book copy and saw some people had problems with the main character (Steve) being presented in first person and the others in third person. In the audio portion this really works well as it provides a narration that is both part of the story and yet separate.

This is a great story to listen to and I am planning to gift it to friends for their summer vacation.

Fell Asleep to it

The narrator had such a soothing voice I kept falling asleep. I finally gave up and just listened to the beginning, middle and end. I may read it in print to see what I missed.

Another late night

Where does Catch and Release rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is in my top 10.

What other book might you compare Catch and Release to and why?

A cross between Lee Cross and James Paterson with a romantic angle. About the time you think you know what will happen the story takes a sharp turn in another direction.

Which scene was your favorite?

The main character, Steve, is a psychologist with a great sense of humor. His new friend Jennifer aka “J” is a strong willed woman with a crazy life. In one scene she is caught up in a shoot out in which Steve has to drive to her rescue. His trip is through the wood where he destroys his Hertz rental car. That scene and the new chapter were great.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Not all vacations are created equal.

Any additional comments?

A friend told me about the book and when I found it on audio I used my credits to try it out. Unfortunately I started late in the evening and couldn’t put it down until very late. It was worth the loss of sleep. I am not a huge “romance” fan, but the interaction between Steve and Jennifer was beautiful, especially with Steve’s wit and humor. Highly recommend for mystery and thriller fans.
