About this listen

They took my Merlin license away.

To get it back, I must complete the witch trials. Okay, so I have to pass a few magical trials. No big deal. Right? Wrong.

The trials are treacherous, ominous, and deadly. I'm not prepared for such brutal, magical tests, but I can't stop. Stopping means failure, and too many people are counting on me.

But then the worst happens. While I'm trying to focus on the trials, the local baker in Hollow Cove is poisoned and killed. And someone I care about is blamed.

As the clues start to fit together, I realize I have to wade through a pack of lies to find the truth-and to find the real killer.

But first, I'll need to survive the witch trials.

Great Story!!!

I absolutely love Tessa, her aunts and her Vampire Friend. This series absolutely improves with each book. I love the fact that it feels like I am listening to a show like Charmed when I am listening to this series!! Don’t give up on it!

temper temper

I love this author and have read many of her books and I really want to like this series . I like the storyline but the main character has temper issues and just makes the situation worse. if she could tone her temper down a little bit the books would be amazing.

Story has potential — narration is painful

The story premise is interesting and has potential but there are problems. First this story acts like it’s a stand alone but it’s obviously part of a series with a broader arc. If it says anywhere that this is part of series and which book it is, I couldn’t find it. The dialogue is a little stilted, some of that is the narration. The main character is pretty annoying and did not grow on me. She professes her courage and take no crap attitude (with her “giant lady balls”, I get the point behind this but it is overused in this book and genre — beyond that why do women need balls to be strong and dominate? Answer - we don’t. I get it but it’s very annoying) but really she just loses her temper and makes things worse with her postering. The only place she really shines is the last stage of the “Witch Trials” and even then she comes across iffy.

The main problem though is the narration — I’ll say up front I’m very picky about narration. I have some degree of mysophonia and hyperacusis so pitch, inflection, breathing or mouth noises, background noise and quality can be a real problem. That being said this narrator stops a lot, has weird pauses, breathing sounds and background quality is not great.

I really try not to be too picky and it takes a lot for me to leave a negative review. The author has potential but really needs to edit for better quality and get a different narrator.
