About this listen

As the Spook's apprentice, Thomas Ward's first duty is to protect the County from ghosts, boggarts, and other dangerous creatures. But now his mother has come back from her homeland to seek his help. One of the most dangerous of the old witches, Ordeen, is about to return to earth, bringing with her suffering and devastation.

Tom's mother has mustered a powerful army - including Tom's friend Alice, the Pendle witches, and the assassin Grimalkin - to confront Ordeen. If Tom joins them, the Spook will refuse to take Tom back as his apprentice. What sacrifices will be made in the battle against the dark?

The narrator truly makes this book series come to life! I recommend it to all young adults and older adults.

Awesome story

Mam returns from Greece to ask Tom, Gregory, Arkwright, and all the witches in the County to help her fight a war against an ancient enemy. Tom agrees to fight, much to the disappointment of his master. The story shifts here. The Dark has grown strong and with Fiend on the loose no one and nowhere is safe.

Another good addition. In my personal opinion, it felt a little like the author was rushing to get a bit more out of every chapter of writing, but the story itself doesn't suffer because of it.

The narrator was excellent as always, though I still wish he'd be a little stronger with Alice's voice.

6th in a line of good books.

Any additional comments?

I have noticed several reviews saying that the narration was different or worse than prior books in the series, Something must have changed since those reviews were written, because it was the same narrator using the same voices, and was superbly done.

Great book with great narration

I just could not stop listening. It was an amazing journey to that I didn't want to end (sounds cliche but it's the best way to explain it) Again kudos to the narrator!!!

Wonderful series

This one picks up right where the previous leaves off, it’s a bit of a slow burn but still delivers great moments throughout. Action picks up towards the end along with upping the stakes with a bit anxiety enduring foreshadowing.

Another great chapter in the series

I LOVE these books.I keep thinking I have figured things out with each book out but then the author ends up surprising me with a new little twist each time. The narration is great too. Christopher Welch does a great job at changing his voice for each character that I often forget that it is one person reading the story.

Great Series!
