About this listen

A ruthless killer - out of sight, out of mind

I used to work for the Telepath’s Guild before they kicked me out for a drug habit that wasn’t entirely my fault. Now I work for the cops, helping Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino put killers behind bars.

My ability to get inside the twisted minds of suspects makes me the best interrogator in the department. But the normals keep me on a short leash. When the Tech Wars ripped the world apart, the Guild stepped up to save it. But they had to get scary to do it - real scary.

Now the cops don’t trust the telepaths, the Guild doesn’t trust me, a serial killer is stalking the city - and I’m aching for a fix. But I need to solve this case. Fast. I’ve just had a vision of the future: I’m the next to die.

It's too bad such a good writer had to write such a bad story. It's not your fault, you didn't do it, oh poor pitiful me. Good writing, good storytelling, good narrator, really bad story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's great to see a fresh take on sci-fi. Alex Hughes imaginative writing is a new genre, and creates a world that is believable and intriguing. The telepath addict, powerful and weak, creates a dimension of realism in a fantasy world. I highly recommend this book!

Alex Hughes is brilliant, Mindspace is captivating

Any additional comments?

Wonderful book, loved the listen. Especially liked that the narrator pronounced DeKalb and Ponce de Leon like they do here in the South, so many don't. After reading other reviews I was not sure if I wanted to download it. Very glad I took the chance since it kept me entertained for 2 days.

What a delightful surprise!

I saw Alex on a authors panel at C2E2 last weekend. She was so funny and interesting. Her love of science really came through. I actually bought the book sitting there in the audience. I now wish I could go back in time. At the time I didn't understand the references or questions, now I do and I have my own questions. For such a happy, funny person, she created quite a dark character with very serious issues. In many ways he reminded me of Harry Dreasdon. I can't to listen to the next one and what she has in store.

Loved this

Bought this book most of all because of the narrator. Daniel May narrated the Foreigner series, an absolute favorite, so magnificently! ! I wanted more, and the story sounded interesting.
I'm very happy I did. The narration is absolutely fantastic, more than you could hope for, and the story is great. Characters that you end up caring for and interesting detective work with very good Sci-Fi. Bought the second book before I had finished the first.
Now the only drawback is waiting for the next book!! And for more series narrated by Daniel May!!

Magnificent Narration, Great Story

What made the experience of listening to Clean the most enjoyable?

This author handles the day to day experience of being a human being in a realistic way, while setting his character in a fictional world. I gained a new understanding of addiction and recovery, and appreciated the way the world kept turning around the characters as they managed their crisis.

Keep going... it just gets better as the books progress.

Compelling

Well, not quite what I had hoped, though in the end I stayed and enjoyed the last half much more. As others have said, the protagonist whines quite a lot throughout the book about his struggle with his 'habit', and the fear of losing his job. Oddly enough, it made me feel less empathetic to his addiction issues than I started out feeling. Once it gets going, the plot is very engaging, couldn't figure it out way before the characters, nice little ride.

So close...
