Publisher's summary

For dreamers and future inventors!

Perfect for listeners aged six and up.

Let the book talk:

“What???” Louey and Chloe jumped on all their eight paws at once, their matching tails curled into question marks.

“The flying daisies!” said Oak, proudly puffing out his chest. Then he paused and continued with a long deep sigh. “Oh, but…it is still just a dream, an idea in waiting. I need help to make it happen. Will you help me?” he asked, his large eyes blinking hopefully.

And so begins the story of Cloud-Named-Chloe and her loving guardian cat, Louey.

Among green hills and sweet lilacs, they find a grand adventure — to create an unusual gift that has never existed. Their team is unique: blue rabbits Pom and Pima, wise spirit bears Ulima and Ray, a tiny creature named Abacus the 8th and many others.

Together, the friends dream up something truly extraordinary. But can they create it? What secrets will Nature reveal? What strange places will they travel to? Join them to find out!

Science is beautifully woven into the story. With every chapter, the team explores Nature to invent the future. Each chapter adds something curios to the plot. Do you know who can go deep into salty oceans and freshwater lakes, yet lives on land and climbs rocks? Meet them in Chapter XV. You might be surprised – they are real cute creatures of our planet Earth!

Young listeners will love experiencing in a playful, story-driven way:

  • Fun of teamwork
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Primer on DNA and genetics
  • Biodiversity of animals, plants, and other living things
  • And above it all warmth of family and love.

Kids will listen to their favorite chapters again and again. A whimsical adventure that will last.

Cloud~Named~Chloe and Her Cat Louey: The Forest Adventures by Kaby is a whimsical story about forest animals who, together with their cloud friend, Chloe, go on an adventure to help Oak create a beautiful gift for his friend Willow, who gave him a flute as a gift. The adventure starts with Chloe and her best friend and mentor, a cat named Louey. Together, they brainstorm ideas with Oak, and when they reach a dead end, they ask for help from other resourceful, imaginative, and intelligent forest creatures to bring their idea to life. To create a species that doesn’t yet exist, a flying daisy, they will need all the help they can get, and when the forest creatures put their brains and skills together, science and magic, new friendships, and a new species emerge.

Cloud~Named~Chloe and Her Cat Louey is an engaging, imaginative, magical, and stimulating storybook for children. I enjoyed the camaraderie between the various animal friends who work together to bring their ideas to life. Author Kaby demonstrates in detail for children the brainstorming process and how to effectively work together to support each other during such a session to bring out the best in others and deliver the best outcomes for a project. The characters are endearing and inspiring. Children will learn good qualities from each character, including curiosity, kindness, persistence, and a love for knowledge. I loved reading this book, which teaches children invaluable life skills that will serve them well, encouraging a passion for learning.

Kirkus Review

Our Verdict: Get It.

A cozy, kid-friendly approach to collaborative, creative, and innovative problem-solving.

Using imagination and science, a cat, a cloud, and their friends work together to make a special gift in this debut illustrated children’s book. Louey, a ginger cat with a white belly, is a guardian of his close friend Chloe, a soft white cloud. In turn, Chloe comes up with enjoyable adventures for the pals in the Land of Berry Pies.

Surprisingly Whimsical, Imaginative STEM Story

This audiobook is a fascinating combination of classic children's stories and science learning. At turns, parts of it reminded me of Beatrix Potter and Alice in Wonderland—in good ways, of course!—and gentle instruction about the science of DNA and how it can create so many different forms of life. Despite the science aspect, the story is whimsical and will undoubtedly appeal to children's imagination. How the author describes the science aspects was neatly woven into and became a part of the story. As someone who has studied DNA in several nursing classes, I loved the comparison of the four DNA bases to letters of the alphabet that could be combined in different ways, but only those four letters could be repeated. Before revealing the concept as DNA, the author had the children do just that with letters of the alphabet: combine and rearrange just four letters to create multiple words of various lengths. The narrator makes this book an absolute delight. The British accent is perfect for a book that echoes classic English children's stories, and he doesn't just narrate it. He acts it. This story has a variety of characters, and the narrator has given each a distinct voice. Since this is a longer children's audiobook, over 3 hours in length, at a certain point, I started mimicking the accents as certain characters came up. That certainly added to my enjoyment! And I imagine kids would have fun doing some of the silly voices. Any child could appreciate this purely for the story, but I think a child interested in science will especially enjoy it. Fun book, excellent story, and well narrated. Highly recommended.
